#1 Post by J.Bakshi »

Dear list,

Could any one kindly suggest me the min. list of packages required to build a minimal puppy with busybox only ?
The very minimum distro which can run some commands only.
Thanks

I think that what you are talking about is not Puppy. Puppy is what it is including UI.

If you are referring to a "minimal Linux" then I recommend using the instructions on the project Linux from scratch (LSF) http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/

or even Gentoo http://www.gentoo.org/

Thanks for your response. Maybe LFS is the project where I can get the idea.

I'd recommend you look at the rescue.dsk for an older version of slackware. It inlcudes nearly all the utilities included in busybox(at the time). It gives you a good idea of how to go about the project as it inlcudes a fairly normal init setup.
the rescue.dsk is a floppy image which you can mount with the loopback device so you can see what't in there. It's pretty unique among busybox mini-distros as it uses glibc instead of uClibc.
You can get it here:
ftp://ftp.slackware.at/slackware-11.0/rootdisks/

has anyone looked at either onebone or picopup? those are both minimalistic cli puppy derivatives.
The only windows I have are those on my home.

if by "standard" you mean bigger as opposed to smaller, then 'no' they aren't standard.

Standard or not, I'd guess that pico pup is the closest to what is wanted.

did you look at the rampup iso
to see if it is of any use/interest to you

it is the absolute minimum
i could make it

just

isolinux
kernal
busybox
tinylogin
autologinroot
e3

and the minimum libs to run
busybox and tinylogin/autologinroot

scripts are also absolute minimum

it was made from puppy .097
i also made another one from puppy 2.17
