Thanks for the tip Dawnsboy. I already have this version of Streamtuner but I extracted the shoutcast.so plugin anyway just to see. No luck. I'm pretty sure the recent change enacted by Shoutcast will have to be addressed by a new plugin. I could be wrong but like I said I've seen this problem before.

Odd thing I am using it on my mini pc as we speak. It was installed several days ago and has been working fine.

However I just installed a copy of the same package on my netbook (same puppy version) and I cannot pull in anything from shoutcast.

It looks like you are right.

Some more googling came up with this procedure as a temporary fix:

http://tazbuntu.blogspot.com/2008/10/sh ... tuner.html

Using TaZMAn's advice, I added the following line to /etc/hosts:

205.188.234.120 www.shoutcast.com

It doesn't solve the music categories issue but at least I can perform a "search" for rock, comedy, jazz, news, etc stations and select what I want that way.

Until someone with more expertise can create a new shoutcast.so plugin, this will have to do.

Streamtuner shoutcast still works on 2.14X, so maybe try this shoutcast plugin, just extract it and drop/replace in /usr/lib/streamtuner/plugins/

Hi

These buggers really like to keep us on our toes don't they.

Anyway, i managed to find another plugin that displayed all of the genres,
but it would not connect to anything, it kept giving the following error message:

Code: Select all

Couldn't resolve host '205.188.234.120 '.
I tried the temporary fix suggested by Yogi, to see if that would help, but it never.

In desperation i downloaded and installed a hex editor and got stuck in,
i didn't have a clue what i was doing  , but after umpteen attempts i eventually got it to work. 8)

So, if anyone is feeling brave, please try the one attached below.

CatDude,

Your shoutcast plugin works! It has restored the music categories in the lefthand column of the Shoutcast tab. Thanks.
By the by, you wouldn't happen to know what Shoutcast is doing that keeps causing this problem, do you?

I hope you didn't lose too much in the way of bookmarks by having to do that.

You cannot be serious mate.

As i said above, i just hacked the plugin which i found here: Shoutcast Bug In Streamtuner
using Mickey Hex Editor, which i downloaded from here: mickey-0.1.13.linuxELFx86.tar.gz

All i did was use mickey to open up the plugin from the link above,
then did a search for 205.188.234.120 (there are only two instances of it).

I then changed the first instance to what is shown in the attached image.

I don't know for sure, but i gather it has something to do with the setup of their web pages.

shoutcast in streamtuner

#55 Post by marvinudy »

CatDude,

Quick note to let you know that your 'fixed' shoutcast.so transplanted successfully to Sidux-2010 KDE.

I put a link in my success posting on the Sidux forum using your posted 'fix'.

Thanks for the help.

best regards,

marvinudy

streamtuner2 as proxy for streamtuner1

#63 Post by milki2 »

I've got streamtuner 0.99 working again:

Image

It however requires a proxy setup of streamtuner2 CLI. It's working on my computer, but if someone volunteered a web server, everyone could use this again.

Basically you just need to hexedit-patch the /usr/lib/streamtuner/plugins/shoutcast.so and replace all occourences of "www.shoutcast.com" with "old.shoutcast.com". Then simply add following to your /etc/hosts file:

Code: Select all

# EXAMPLE, won't work without real webserver IP
127.0.0.1 old.shoutcast.com yp.shoutcast.com
For the proxy server to work, you need PHP and Python>2.5 installed (my provider hasn't), download streamtuner2 there, and setup the contrib/ files for faking the old "yp.shoutcast.com" server. It's a bit tricky, but I've assembled all pieces here:
http://milki.erphesfurt.de/streamtuner2 ... 1proxy.tgz

So, if there's serious interest to set this up for everyone, and you can provide a public webserver with unfettered virtual host name support, contact me.
