Just like to say I am using this now for the 3rd day
(which might not seem very long but quite often I find some required facility not available and resort to the latest Puppy Official version within a couple of hours of puplet usage)
Once I had changed to JWM, disabled the desklets and switched to Seamonkey, I have something very familiar to Puppy users.
The default system was too radical (it would suit a new user or someone familiar with Muppy)
I (briefly) tried installing Xara Xtreme (a couple of pets) but it is not on the menu and frankly I have just been mostly using Seamonkey and have not tried very hard. (Been busy preparing a new timber floor I have built for its final layer - put in the underlay yesterday)
How would you recommend installing xara or any other package?
I am rather intrigued by Slackware compatibility . . .
How effective is that for installing?
Basically I have found Muppy completely workable
As Sage mentions - no show stoppers; just works
Good luck with the DVD version

Lob, can you give me a link to the latest release of xara?
Then I will install it and look about the menu issue.
Please also try to run in a consolewindow:
fixmenus -force
Then restart jWM.

This is the latest info I have - if your link is more up to date will add (forum is slow to link at the moment)
http://tmxxine.com/wik/wikka.php?wakka=XaraLx
Have implemented 'the force' - will have another go
May the force be with us . . .

Nope! rw does not solve the KP issue with the FULL Mini install.
Let's see if I can get the liveDVD installed without looping.

Ttuuxx version works up to the 3.xx (from what I remember)
Yours installed fine in Muppy - sorry about duplication
It is so long sijnce I installed that I used the two pets from my HD
rather than the complete ttuuxxx .pet
Maybe someone will test both and see if there is any difference
- Probably very slight?
I am running IceWM at the moment very nice - OK really must try Muppy and compiz fuzion soon . . .
Was hoping to try Muppy on the Asus Eeepc but need to start laying a laminate floor today . . .

Thanks...downloaded, burned and booted up without a problem.
One note, the CUPS in the distro doesn;t recognize my HP Laser4Plus connected via USB, so I installed cups-install-v0.3.pup and cupspdf-0.3.pet

There were some problems! Had to increase the mem to 512.
The ro/rw parameter in GRUB no longer influences the error messages which are an endless series of text :
| Quote: |
login[<incrementing counter*>] root login on 'tty1'
-sh: error while loading shared libraries: libreadline.so.5:cannot ope shared object file: No such file or directory
*starts at 847 (I think).
|
CTRL-C ineffective.

Desktop Icons Subject description: Removing Icons |
|
I may not be using the correct terminology, but I would like to know how to:
1. Remove icons from the desktop without loosing the applications
2. Preferably move them from the desktop to another "folder" that
I can access from the desktop.
Thanks,
Thom

Hannover weather report Subject description: How do you change the weather report location on the desklet? |
|
Googling on the location code in the configuration window of the Weather desklet on Muppy Live shows that it represents Hannover, Germany. But my attemps to discover other codes to change this location failed.
Where can one find the available locations and their codes? I did find a map of Europe on de.weather.com but couldn't use it to discover this. The "other maps" option didn't work, possibly because I didn't have all options for Opera enabled.
Has anyone succeeded with this, and if so, what settings are needed in the browser?

It should be in /usr/lib/.
Please boot from CD and verifiy, that it was copied to yur harddrive, or copy it over again.

Open a rox-filer window by clicking on one of the drive icons at bottom. (do not use the "files" icon, that would open PCManfm).
Drag an icon from the desktop to a folder.
Right-click he desktop icon, "file xxx" -> change icon" (or similar, I have the german one).
Now you see, what picture is assigned.
Do this too with the new icon, and drag that picture from another filerwindow or filemanager on it.
There is no esier way, because the Rox-Pinboard (Desktop) itself is not a folder, but a special thing defined by some XML files.

Go to http://weather.com.
Enter your city there, and confirm.
This will show the weather for the city.
In your adressbar in the webbrowser, you can see the location code.
For New York, it is:
http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USNY0996?from=enhsearch_reg
So the location code is:
USNY0996
DVD
I currently upload the english DVD version, that I have built, while I was sleeping.
It takes 4-5 hours to upload, I will inform you, when I come back from buying a CF-card in town. I also must get a new monitor, mine imploded.
I did not test it myself, so see it as experiment...
It also includes XaraLx, kraptor and songbird (there also will follow a goodies.sfs with these 3 programs).

But...I'm in Canada. Have tried entering both " City, Country" and postal code (we don't use the same system as the US).
Could it be my brower settings are preventing the Country, City input from working?
Look forward to trying the DVD version, although I'm a bit bewildered by all of the features on the Muppy-Live desktop and having difficulty figuring out how to use them, especially all the desklet tabs in the taskbar.
I imagine jumping to Muppy-Live from Puppy Dingo as comparable to switching from operating a hangglider to piloting a 747. Having a cursor-on popup description, especially if linked to a help file, for each tab would be most helpful.
Don't know whether this is practical/possible for you to modify - but after choosing a location and size for the save file, it would be nice to be able to go back and change both if one has second thoughts, or at least to have a clear warning in the menu that once you make this choice, the only option left is no save at all...
I chose save to hdd, 512MB, then reconsidered and cancelled, intending to back up and select a smaller file, but Muppy just shut down with no save. I've done this before, but fairly rarely. To someone who has never done it, and has just configured Muppy extensively, it must be especially annoying.

if I enter "toronto", it displays a list of 4 cities called like that.
I choose the one in Canada, and get:
http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel
/businesstraveler/local/CAXX0504?from=enhsearch_loc
So the code is CAXX0504.
