gnome_libs 2.2.3 for non gnome puppy Sub_title: libs needed for gthumb, cario-dock and gnome apps, WITHOUT GNOME |
|
Hi there,
Here is a package of gnome libs:
http://www.eezos.com/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=4&Itemid=
libbonobo
libbonobo-activation
libbonoboui
libdbus
libgnomevfs
libesddsp
libesd
libfam
libgamin
libgconf
libgnome
libgnome-keyring
libgnomeui
libgtop
libORBit
The basic function of this set of libraries is that it contains libgnome and libgnomeui and all it's dependencies. Allowing you to run gnome applications in puppy, like gthumb, cairo-dock... you name it...
Thanks very much to wow who provided the gnome .sfs which i borrowed these libs from.
BTW, this actaully my first pet file...sorry if i've done something stupid.
If you're running XFCE, then i recommend editing the pet before installing (although it has run fine for me). libgamin, dbus and libfam are already installed on XFCE, so i'd recommend removing them before applying this pet.
do this by:
- download pet
- run pet2tgz gnome_libs.pet
- tar -zxf gnome_libs.tar.gz
- remove libgamin, libfam and dbus from the /gnome_libs/usr directories.
Thanks... and enjoy.

Hey Olly the same group of guys did that last year to another puppy site and back then someone else said that they did it before, I think they directly target puppy for some odd reason.
Well good luck to you, Hope the recovery goes well

tuuxx,
What's odd, is that i literally posted that link about 4 hours ago and this is the first time i've ever made that site public.
They must have only got my site from this forum. It's interesting to know it's been done before.
What amazes me is... why bother... why hack a completely useless site that's doing good for the world by providing free software for all. If these people, who obvsiouly have some intelligence, put it to good work... they might actually acheive something in their lives.
What a bunch of chimps... it's makes me so angry.
I'm going to have to do a full restore. It's going to take a day or so.

these cracks are generated by scripts, that look for vulnaribilities in PHP.
They just add a new index.php.
If you restore your old index.php, it is fixed for the moment.
Remove write permissions for the document root folder and the files in it via ftp, to reduce the danger of further attacs.
Subfolders are usually not affected.

Dingo,
gthumb was the main reason i put these together. I know Cairo -dock needs some of these libs.
Here's a list of gnome applicaitons on wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_GNOME_applications
Although alot of them do not require neither libgnome or libgnomeui.

thanks
I would have gucharmap to browse unicode fonts. I will try and I will check for dependencies. I hope that does not requires libgnomeui.
as far as you know, can balsa
http://balsa.gnome.org/features.html
run with your libs?

I don't see a post concerning this yet, and even though the thread is kinda old now, I figure this might help another competent-but-beginner user like me, if no one else.
As a note, this was done on a frugal USB flash install of 4.2.0 retro (in an ext3 partition, though I don't know if that matters).
After I installed the gnome_libs.pet linked to by "nutts4life" in the first post and installed the gthumb-2.10.8-i686.pet posted up by "wow" (here), gthumb wouldn't run from the menu. I went to /usr/bin/ and ran it from the terminal, and it complained that it couldn't find the file "/var/lib/dbus/machine-id." I have a tower running Ubuntu 8.04 with gthumb installed and working, so, on a whim, I copied the same file, in the mentioned location, and placed it in the same place on my Puppy flash drive.
Gthumb works like a charm now, and I didn't edit the file at all. Took me maybe five minutes, and that's because the two computers involved were a good distance apart. I don't know if I got lucky or if this might work for all cases, but I figure it's worth a shot if you get stuck and have the file available on another computer.
Great package, though. I love gthumb but didn't want to run all of Gnome, so this is ideal. Thanks!
