Laptop with Borrowed USB wifi, and free wifi at the airport

I have a P2 333MHz Armada with 192 meg ram Win 98 and a USB Wifi that I think that I can borrow. The local airport boasts of having free wifi. I have a whole stack of puppies and use wake pup on a floppy. We'll pick up my daughter on Saturday, and I'd like to try for it.

What should I be aware of?

It's sort of a one shot deal, once I'm there I can't go back for something that I forgot. Thanks guys.

It's a Linksys. I don't have details on it, I know that my friend just recently purchased it. I expected to try 2.17 first. I guess I should just try it, but I didn't expect to be able to get a signal. I'll see if it recognizes it.

Puppy didn't make it too the airport, that's another story. I've fooled around with it at home to try to learn something and I'm stuck. I tried all of the modules that referenced usb (It is a linksys G) and some others also. Nothing found.What's a next step?

Get the Windows driver for it complete with the inf file.
Then set it up with Ndiswrapper.
Steps:
Open network wizard.
Select install module
On tab at top, select MORE
then select Ndiswrapper.
Tell it what directory you put the inf file and windows driver in.
Once it is loaded, check to see if the Network wizard finds the new device.
I think you can take it from here.

I have a USB Westell wireless device that I set up that way. It works great with Puppy 4.0 final as well as Windows 98SE.

I was trying for 2.17 because this laptop won't boot from CD. I took from your message that I should try 4.0 So I did with wakepup. It locked up twice. Is Ndiswrapper in 2.17? Ideas to try?

Ndiswrapper is indeed in Puppy 2.17! Just make a folder for the windows driver and inf file for your wireless device in puppy, copy the pertinent files to it, and then follow the instructions in my previous post on how to install the driver.

@ 8-bit it told me that the wusb54gsc.inf was not a good driver (incompatible or something like that)

@ puppyluvr it told me that it wasn't getting anything

I'm not really in a wifi place, but we can get it started without that, right?
