exactly - sorry for the confusion - i couldn't logon to the ftp server yet but as soon as I can it will be at that address - also, when it is fully updated, I will include a link to the latest downloadable .tgz (or .pet) version (using local images) in the favorites menu for those wishing to use it in their remaster.

Thanks for the resources- I'll add them to the Q
which brings up a side note - I keep adding apps, some of which I have never personally used, so if any of them provide no real added value or it starts to get too bloated let me know that as well

As I understand it, the FTP's URL should be ftp.servage.net, login technosaurus, password (see my PM).
I have no FTP service here now, but should be able to test it this evening not later than GMT12:00.

its already posted - I didn't have ftp access till I got home either. Anyhow many thanks Raffy (PMed ya btw)
I'm currently working on search boxes from the sites everyone has suggested. I have them working - just trying to keep the look of a desktop instead of a web page.
Next step is to add sites from all of these lists of web apps while trying to stay under 10 per category - may need to split some categories or add some new ones so we don't get any more "tails" (I guess I've got it looking so much like a desktop people forget they have scroll bars)
Way back on the back burner is finding a decent looking background with a smaller file size to speed up the load times (any suggestions?)
Thanks to everyone for all of the suggestions - your input has allowed us to have the best web apps (or "rich internet applications") collection around as far as I can tell. Virtually every link on the web page came from another member of our community in some way, shape or form. I appreciate the patience everyone has had while I have done all of my tweaking and renaming etc... Thanks to Raffy, http://pupweb.org/desktop/ will be its new and hopefully permanent home and you won't have to suffer through testing some of my extremely bad ideas (only the really bad ones)

THANKS TECHNO!!
And that's not meant as the "net yelling" but as a real "Congrats" for a hard job so very well done and excellently crafted!
It's now in the top bookmark bar of my SeaMonkey/Firefox for that I can reach it with one click (from all my other distros) and in Puppy proper it'll be the homepage of my browsers there. Just such a fabulous wealth of material and apps!
Incredible! For once I'm speechless. Some here will realise how impossible that is. LOL!
Amicalement/Cheers!

Lobster - thanks for the reminder - I tried that one before when I was using white lettering and couldn't see the text in places - it should work now.

status update |
|
I just finished editing the mouseover descriptions to be a bit more concise - thought it might reduce the size more than it did
I also added the klu9, wellminded and google/linux search boxes
Moved Puppy programs to the bottom to make room for the search boxes
i am currently prepping new app sections
games - Yahoo Games...
todo - webeditors - google page creator etc..
favorites sections:
todo - library - gutenberg, wikibooks, internet archive, google books
added previously requested searches+
updated icons for the web version
and using these additional sites as a reference for more web apps

I've already found a bunch of search box codes including metacrawler, excite, ask jeeves, DMOZ... - the issue is getting them to look ok
I am trying to get all the different google searches to use one box and radio buttons and kind look like a widget using a table with a translucent background. This should make room for other searches on the top.
I like to do a bottom bar also, but the only way I know how is to use frames and that cuts off the dropdown menus. Maybe I'll stumble upon some nice code snippet soon for this.

v1.0 - Start Menu, favorites, icons searches & widgets done Subject description: Maintennance & beautification from here out - hopefully |
|
I created a single dropdown menu for the google search to choose the site you wish to search - I was trying to emulate a widget here, but I'm even more rusty on graphics than I was at html when I started making this site - so it may take me a bit to make the google "widget" look pretty. Also since this performs the same function of several of the other requested searches - they were replaced with "ask" and "webcrawler"
I also added flowcharts and games to the desktop and did some tweeking under the hood and some code fixes. Other than that I am happy with the interface for now and plan to mainly maintain and expand updated web apps from here. (Note that I have purposely left an icon space for use in puplets)

It looks like this doesn't work in vanilla opera.
I'm using 9.51 in Muppy-084. The application menus disappear as soon as I move the mouse off the category text.
If I do it very quickly it works. I suspect there is a small gap in between the category and the menu which means that the hover is disabled moving between the two.

Hairy
Thanks for the report.
I had this working before I thought - I will see what I can do though I think I have a copy of Pupeez somewhere so I can test with Opera. I suspect its something in the CSS section, but may just as easily be fixed with align right vs. center or left (however it is that I have it now?)
