Dingo doesn't see my sound card (SiS 7018) [Solved]

#1 Post by jemdem »

Hi all,

I'm running puppy 4 on an old Notebook (Pentium III 1GHz, 64RAM, sound card SiS 7018), and when I run the ALSA Sound Wizard, it says "No PnP or PCI card found" and asks me if I want to "probe legacy ISA Sound card", but warn me it's gonna make my system unstable so I haven't done that.

Can someone help?

Thanks already.

Same problem over here. See the topic "Puppy doesn't bark"

You can let alsa probe your system I hadn't made mine instable.

I've been reading an other topic on the subject that is advising to open alsamixer. But if I try to do so it says "alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: no such device".

jemdem,
Thank you for revealing the Puppy version you are using, and accurately revealing the exact device in question.
Thank you also for using the word "Thanks" in your request.
I can tell you that experienced forum members will often ignore questions lacking in detail and courtesy.

Puppy has trouble detecting your SiS7018 chipset, as explained by Dougal here -
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 953#115953

The solution is to manually load the correct ALSA module (snd-trident) -

Code: Select all

modprobe snd-trident
and then run alsaconf (not alsaconfig).
