I have opened /usr/share/applications/leafpad-text-editor.desktop and dragged it to the desktop so that it is a desktop icon.

It works, but I would like to change the icon to /usr/local/lib/X11/mini-icons/Leafpad.xpm. How do I do this?

I, also, would like to make leafpad the default editor rather than geany. Can I do this?

I prefer Leafpad as my text editor, too.
I'm not an expert, so I will give instructions based on my experience. If there are errors, I hope one of the gurus will quickly correct.
Go to /usr/local/bin. Find "defaulttexteditor." Right click and choose "open as text." Change "geany" to "leafpad" and save. That's it; Leafpad is your default text editor.
Changing icons is also easy, as are most operations in Puppy. Right click on the icon and choose "change icon." A box will open that will enable you to drag the icon you want from your files into the box. Done.

@davec51:

Followed your instructions -- worked like a charm.

Thank you very much won't need the gurus this time.
