Dir-Cmpr.txt 3125 - Tools for Directory Compare & Sync...

Summary info below...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Puppy-Linux via Read-Only CD eliminates over 90% of Hacker/Cracker danger.
-------------
Wikipedia.org - Comparison of File Managers - shows only FOUR FM that
are - FREE + LINUX + TWO-PANEL _ with _ DIR-COMPARE ++ DIR-SYNC -
`
GNOME COMMANDER - - OK - only needs PYTHON/etc files - 11-MB installed.
KRUSADER - - - - - OK but many KDE/etc/etc/etc files - 215-MB installed.
MIDNIGHT COMMANDER - - is only two files - - but console text mode only.
emelFM2 - - - OK - - one file plus GTK - - does DIR compare BUT results
` of compare are only in list form, so DIR-SYNC is clumsy & difficult.
`
Most LINUX file SYNC utilities are based on RSYNC with clumsy text LIST.
Various GUI frontends for RSYNC like UNISON & GRSYNC do not improve LIST.
MELD (next) does graphics LIST/SYNC & if present GNOME COMMANDER uses it.
-----------------------------------
meld.sourceforge.net meldmerge.org
--- MELD - - requires 4-MB Python/etc files - 6-MB installed,
and is called for SYNC by GNOME COMMANDER file manager.
Meld is TWO-PANE tool that can compare and merge files & directories.
It's a GUI analog to the standard diff and patch command line tools.
You can run Meld without installing it. Just extract the archive and
run the meld file in the bin folder. Requirements...
Python 2.5 GTK+/pygtk 2.14 Glib/pygobject 2.16
GtkSourceView/pygtksourceview 2.10 (optional)
Meld is a visual diff & merge tool targeted at developers. It
provides two-way three-way comparison of both files and directories,
and has support for many popular version control systems. It helps
you review code changes and understand patches. Features...
Two-way three-way comparison between files and directories
Auto-merge mode (in development version)
Comparisons update as you type
Visualisations make it easier to compare your files
Actions on diff chunks make for easier merges
Supports Git, Bazaar, Mercurial, Subversion, etc.
…and more ( see website )
Meld is licensed under the GPL v2, except as noted.
Meld is packaged for just about every Linux and Unix distribution,
so you should be able to get it from your distribution's installer.
Meld also works on OS-X and Windows, but there are no all-in-one
packages for those systems available at the moment.

This group mentions a wide variety of different TWO-PANE file managers,
including muComander Worker etc, that do NOT do any DIR COMPARE & SYNC.

Hello, D.Torch.

Welcome to the kennel ! :)

Why not a specialized program such as jfilesync http://jfilesync.sourceforge.net/ ?

Regards.
