Change Xorg Display Settings without exiting X, Finally !!!

Built on puppy 4.0 might work for others.

Well I was building LXDE and came across this great little tool That lets you select monitor size within the default window manager, So I tested it by itself without lxde just rox and It still worked. Its only a 11kb pet package including an Icon for the menu entry I made.
I bet someone is going to hack this little application and include a lot more screen size settings.
Its nice because you don't have to leave x and none of your opened windows close when setting the screen size, This should be in puppy by default.

Your X adjustment applet is not detecting my Dell M781-S monitor. What you see it what I get. Any thoughts? I have a recent Nvidia GeForce 6xxx video card currently running at 1024x768x24 @ 80Hz.

well that wasn't the feedback I was looking for lol, Just kidding , really for once I thought I stubbled onto something really handy, It works perfect on my pc and I have a new video card also, hmmm
This could be a shot in the dark but maybe it might have to be compiled on the default users pc? But there are around 7 different linux distros using LXDE as a default window manager.

Do you compile? and if so would you like to compile this and see if it works? It takes like 2 seconds to compile.

I usually use
./configure --prefix=/usr --build=i386-linux

that configures the package

and then

new2dir make install

installs the package and also makes a directory with all the files located next to the original
then you open that folder and delete the root folder and then package it up as a pet
dir2pet FolderNameHere

I've downloaded it, will test sometime.

Older monitors are not "detectable". The Xorgwizard uses a little utility application <trying to remember its name> pause </trying to remember its name> actually, Puppy has two such utilities, here is one:

# get-edid | parse-edid

Just type that in a terminal. They are two little apps, 'get-edid' and 'parse-edid', the former output is piped into the latter which prints the nformation in a nice way.

If you run this, it will tell you whether your monitor is "detectable".

I think Barry's onto something. Here's the output of get-edid on my system (screen grab, as redirection failed).

I think Barry and you are right, I tried it and they it passed all the results, So basically its not the program its the monitor, my monitor is 20" LCD and its 6 months old. Now I understand why Xorg does the checks on boot-up and not once the window manager is running, I should try it on my other pc it has an older monitor.
