pMusic relies on the latest gtkdialog-0.8.2 which is not as part of Wary atm. Please update.

The terminal outputs are not related to gtkdialog and are already fixed for next release.

Thank you for testing
Sigmund

Why should you miss out on the pmusic fun?

I have compiled gtkdialog-0.8.2 [no vte], caps, alsaequal so you can test pmusic3-RC and Pequalizer.

gtkdialog : Note, the executable is gtkdialog, so will clobber the symlink to gtkdialog4, which is version 0.8.0. This is need for Pmusic3

The following are required for pequalizer

Guys, please DO NOT install Pmusic 2.9.9 or be very careful. I tried installing it under Slacko 5.3.3 but it opens Pequalizer only. Then starts playing stream from http://api.jamendo.com - no chance to kill aplay, ffmpeg or anything: keeps playing even after CTRL-Backspace.
Very annoying.
Zigbert, could you check and fix it please?

Please read the instructions! It requires gtkdialog-0.8.2.. I guess I better link it to my above post

Also note that pequalizer must be the latest version, currently 0.9.0

Ok, they are posted elsewhere but I'll put them here. BOTH PETS are needed for Pmusic3-RC (2.9.X) in Slacko-5.3.0, 5.3.1 and 5.3.3 ONLY

Note that I followed the link from Barry's blog then nose-dived as written above :)
However, the funny thing is that Pmusic v2.5.3 under Slacko 5.3.3 offers the same masterpiece of Hoovers (Ride with me) but plays it much slower than its everlasting flavor in 2.9.9 :) I suffered both with my 2.5 GHz Intel Celeron, 2 GB, AC'97 audio.

01micko, thanks for the PETS. I will install them right now; give Pmusic2.9.9 a chance again then return to you.

Edited a few minutes later:

1. Pets installed,
2. Pmusic 2.9.9 installed, started. pEqualizer pops up, Pmusic icon in tray. Cannot open UI. Hoover auto-sings again (Slower than in previous non-UI case). Kills fail, CTRL-Backspace does not shut music down.
3. Reboot
4. Starting Pmusic from menu. No UI. pEqualizer pops up. Nothing heard from Hoover.
5. Start restoring Slacko 2fs

Thank you for your feedback.
I have edited the pMusic 3 page with links to gtkdialog-0.8.2 for many Puppy distros. Please also note that pMusic-2.9.9 is not a minor update (a complete rewritten core), so it is recommended to (re)move the dir /root/.pmusic to get a fresh start.

Pmusic-2.9.10 test

Slacko-5.3.6.5 with Firefox. Pmusic-2.9.10.
After start Pmusic hangs up inself and it hangs up all system. I run it in terminal and it appears to be that Pmusic's "find" endlessly looking for some of my files links in ./wine directory. It continues even after Pmusic's GUI is killed. It took few minutes to start Screeny to take a snapshot. Maybe "find" has a high priority and all other processes have to wait for it.

Good catch!!!

I am rather sure the reason is a symlink-loop in .wine (used to be there earlier), and pMusic follows symlinks which should NOT be necessary.

Will you please help test it?
Edit 'find -L' to just 'find' in line 13, 17 and 158 in /usr/local/pmusic/func_index.

Thanks a lot
Sigmund

Playing speed?

Posted: Mon 05 Nov 2012, 13:47
by gjuhasz
Pmusic plays streams with incorrect speed.
In my case "Ride with me" from Hoovers is played much slower if UI is present (or faster in other cases?).
I attached a screenshot showing response for top command.
See the first couple of process rows causing huge CPU load. Very strange.

The consuming processes are related to pMusic's indexing at first run (if not started manually from MyMusic setup).
I wonder if your issue is the same as explained in previous post. You can kill the 2 top pids.

"find" hang up

Posted: Mon 05 Nov 2012, 14:09
by rodin.s
Yes, this problem is solved by removing '-L' from 'find'. There are some other problems I can hardly describe, like main GUI window becomes unresponsive while playing a song maybe due to some background processes and all buttons disappear from it,,,
When I close pMusic another pEqualizer is started.

Please make sure you run a fresh install after removed '-L'. You might have a enormous db to handle with. (re)move /root/.pmusic should do it. If you have defined local storage somewhere else, this should also be deleted.

What processes are running when pMusic is running
ps | grep -i pmusic
Any terminal output?
pmusic --debug

Thank you
Sigmund
