Looks good but you missed a few of my typo's. You actually introduced one on the heading, tutorial  .

None of the index links worked either.

If you put this document into the community wiki then you can all work on it without having to pass it backwards and forwards. This also has the advantage that when one of you dies or is sent to prison (I don't know which is more likely). The community still has long term editorial access. This is important if the url is distributed in the official iso. You could also use lobsters wiki. There are merits to either option.

Death is more likely. Only some people go to prison. Everyone dies.

Nice work on the HTML Jonathan aka 'Evil'

Yes ALL PSIP documentation should go here as soon as possible . . .
http://puppylinux.org/home

Ask Tom who runs the site - should be in the list of buddies - so leave a voice message to help if unsure . . . :)

I tried to set up a PSIP page but it was rather confusing

Thanks for pointing that out. Making corrections now. Gazb pointed out that now the Anchors aren't holding on the page. I had forgotten to change the links to the correct page address when I moved it off my testing server. Thanks for the catch. I've updated the page, and links are now working.

I've added Grant's tutorial to the wikki HERE.

Question:

Is anyone else having the problem of their Gizmo Voicemail greetings not being played when someone calls? I just tried to leave Lobster a voicemail and got nothing but dead air where it's been working before. I got a voicemail from Grant this morning and he stated the same from mine.

Yes Barry.

Psip 0.11 is the latest. It has been designed to work on the PC and the EEEPC.

Version 0.9.13 is a bit too big for the small EEEPC screen that's why we changed the layout from portrait to landscape.

It's been uploaded to the VOIP forum but it can also be obtained from:
http://www.puppylinux.ca/members/PSIP/psip-0.11.tar.gz

Have you tried it?

Regards

Grant

No. I am keen to try it, but I'm away from home right now, with my laptop and I can't get my headset to work on it. I'll have a go with another PC soon.

router/modems

#104 Post by gazb »

Just downloaded 0.11 looks good works well.
NOTE.
For people trying out psip you may need to check that your router modem does not block port 5060, some router/modems supplied by the big telcos make it difficult to use voip , even port forwarding does not work. (they try to prevent people using voip instead of their expensive telephone service, cannot blame them I guess) some people change the firmware to make them work.

Sound settings

#105 Post by Lobster »

I can't get my headset to work on it
Ironic. :?
I find Puppy sound just works. Plug in mic / headset and away you go.

However for those experiencing difficulties . . .

If a laptop has internal speakers and mic then settings in the bios might need changing.

Otherwise start by getting sound working
Go to Puppy ref and play a sound file by clicking on an audio file - wav are the most likely to work - I always try 'woof woof'

If you hear something even a click - good.
Audio may just need turning on or up.
Check audio is up on mic (some have controllers)
Then try clicking on the mic bottom right and moving the vol up
Then try the mixers under audio in 'multimedia'

Nothing?
OK click on Setup and try the 'Setup Alsa sound' wizard.

Now the mic:
Within Psip you can ensure the mic is working by
adding your name to the buddies list (configure / add buddy)
and adding your sip number
Then phone yourself. Do not answer any call (it is from you)
and it will go to voice mail - which you can then test record to.

and now . . .

At the moment our PSIP documentation is all over the place
but all edits (accessible by anyone) can be made here
and will be used by our help pull down

PSIP
http://puppylinux.org/wiki/applications/dot-pets/psip

Tutorial
http://puppylinux.org/wiki/applications ... p-tutorial

All documentation will be moved to these online locations
apart from a basic intro to explain what the program is and does for
those using Puppy off line

Also a Wikipedia link (in Puppy 4) has been set up by Barry
from the Help in Puppy 4
So a general info / intro to PSIP could be added there . . .
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psip

Hi Guys.

It looks as though Barry is going to include Psip 0.11 in Puppy 4.1 Alpha 5.

There are a number of testers addresses in the default config file. I thought it might be a good idea to remove these before the next full version of Puppy is released or you may be polluted with calls.

Let me know who would like to have their address included.

Smokey

Hi ya' smokey,

Well I think as a public release, each user should build their own buddy list.

It may be best to start fresh....and even though many contacts are already public...there is the point that many calls from users that are unknown to the testers could be a problem.

It sure has been a great beta-test though. I think the voice contact has changed Puppy forever...well done to all and thanks.
Best,
Eric

Me. ;)

Agree with Eric. This will change Puppy.
Any news from CEL?
Credit goes to all our testers. in particular Smokey
who provided a great deal of feedback and whose early efforts finally moved us from 'robot sound' to comprehensible speech . . .

HairyWill is particular for his dedication and coding
turned this from a flimsy prototype into a real program.

I have set up a second computer for Alpha 5 of Puppy
- release imminent and that includes the latest PSIP

I also want you to be aware that one of our PSIP testers, Prithish
has created an incredible blog software written in PHP - in Alpha testing now:

How do I make a Sip to POTS call

#109 Post by dogone »

Can anyone tell me how one places an Sip to "plain old telephone" call using Psip? I'm told it's possible, but I've no clue. I've purchased the requisite US $10 of Sip 'minutes' and am eager to go.
Thanks

Loss of audio between connections (psip 0.11 under 405)

#110 Post by dogone »

On three occasions, I've lost audio between (following?) Psip connections. Experimenting, I've determined that pjsua must be stopped and restarted to regain audio. Simply restarting Psip does not suffice. I've not lost audio while establishing a call or during the call itself.
