Welcome back present...

#136 Post by WhoDo »

I haven't posted in a while so I come bearing gifts, just as I would when visiting an old friend after a long period of non-contact. Enjoy!

Excellent (gifts good) installed immediately :)
Welcome home Warren.
Have you been using PC-Linux OS again?
Tsk, tsk - you are a sucker for a pretty face.
[me too]
As mentioned in a PM I was thinking of using 4.2.1
Two things I missed from 4.2.1 - a working Nvidia driver
and IceWM
Using IceWM now. Next step that driver . . .

Nope. I'm afraid I've lost interest in that one. I've been using OpenSUSE-11.1 and Ubuntu-9.10 Karmic Koala.

The former proved a pain because it was a free-software-only distro, so no drivers packaged for anything, including my nVidia card. 700Mb and still not as good as Puppy for hardware support.

The Ubuntu is very good, and I'm keeping it around for a while. Won't shutdown properly on my laptop though, where Puppy does. I expect that each software "update" will break something else and I'll eventually trash it in favour of the latest thing, whatever that is.

I don't know who compiled the nVidia driver for Puppy 4.31 but it works a treat for me and the installation was a breeze.

I'm still running 4.21 as well, but the lack of development support for that kernel, principally because 4.3x followed on so quickly, means that I'll probably drop it myself sooner or later. The nexus in support of the v3.x vs v4.x squash files was another killer. A shame to see so much hard work killed off without a second thought.

I'm saving a partition for 4.4 though, and I've got a Upup install that likes the onboard graphics of my laptop. I'll also have to make room for Dpup when it arrives. I'm just fickle I guess.

brymway, I resized icons to 48x48 and striped additional icons so only puppy's desktop icons remain, package is now about 190 KB instead 2.2 MB. Download here:

I thought they were 48x48? What did I have them as? Thanks by the way. I'll open the package and look so it'll be right next time. I had no idea.

here is my Sid-Iconset compilation. It is mostly hydroxygen icons for gnome but some other one from different places. It is a complete iconset, with 130+ icons, which with replace many of the puppy icons that don't get replaced normally, so u may want to back up your pixmaps folder before u install in case u want to remove them. Attached is a screenshot with them installed in my wbar.
Instead of looking out Windows, I'm playing with my Puppy.

You should transfer:

-JWM themes
-XFCE themes
-Iconsets
-Wallpapers
-GTK Themes
-IceWM Themes
-Pwidgets bling
-Screenshots
-Puppy Stickers
-Wbar backdrops
-MPlayer Skins

Transfer to avoid confusion and everything is in one place.

I create two PETs for my iconsets Pardus-Milky and Simple; and two backups for Stardust and DeepThought iconsets (they are installed in Puppy by default).
