Subject description: Duplicate Files Finder

Version: 0.8
Home: http://doubles.sourceforge.net/

Quote:
Duplicate Files Finder is an application which searches for duplicate files (files which have the same content, but not necessarily the same name) and lets the user remove duplicate files, either by deleting them or by creating links. The search is very fast compared to other similiar programs which use hashing algorithms

Tested in 4.00.

Package contains:
* Menuentry: Utility => Dupfinder
* Bin: precompiled Binary
* Missing Symlink (4.00): /usr/lib/libtiff.so.4 => /usr/lib/libtiff.so.3.7.4 [if you got this lib already, it might me better to extract the package by hand...]

Package contains NOT:
* Console-Version of Dubfinder

interesting
It shows 1.94MB of dups in pup_4.00.sfs, just counting the files over 10K
it shows
Code:
- 7 equal files of size 207720
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/lib/locale/en_AU/LC_CTYPE"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/lib/locale/en_CA/LC_CTYPE"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/lib/locale/en_DK/LC_CTYPE"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/lib/locale/en_GB/LC_CTYPE"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/lib/locale/en_NZ/LC_CTYPE"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/lib/locale/en_PH/LC_CTYPE"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/lib/locale/en_US/LC_CTYPE"
- 2 equal files of size 92280
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/bin/unzip"

  "/initrd/pup_ro2/bin/bunzip2"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/bin/bzcat"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/bin/bzip2"

  "/initrd/pup_ro2/etc/cups/ppd/CUPS-PDF.ppd"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/share/ghostscript/8.15/lib/ghostpdf.ppd"
- 2 equal files of size 22855
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/lib/sane/libsane-dll.so.1.0.19"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/lib/libsane.so.1.0.19"
- 6 equal files of size 19451
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/lib/locale/en_AU/LC_COLLATE"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/lib/locale/en_DK/LC_COLLATE"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/lib/locale/en_GB/LC_COLLATE"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/lib/locale/en_NZ/LC_COLLATE"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/lib/locale/en_PH/LC_COLLATE"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/lib/locale/en_US/LC_COLLATE"
- 2 equal files of size 17166
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/share/pixmaps/gnumeric/win32-gnumeric.ico"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/share/pixmaps/win32-gnumeric.ico"

  "/initrd/pup_ro2/etc/X11/xorg.conf.t2"
- 2 equal files of size 14208
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/X11R7/lib/X11/fonts/misc/cursor.pcf"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/X11R7/lib/X11/fonts/cursor.pcf-ALT0"
- 2 equal files of size 10191
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/share/gnumeric/1.7.13/glade/font-sel.glade"
  "/initrd/pup_ro2/usr/share/goffice/0.5.1/glade/go-font-sel.glade"
most of these don't look like they ever need to modified independently. I wonder how much that would save compressed.

Doh, thinking harder, doesn't squashfs recognise duplicates anyway in its compression routine. I suspect there are no savings here.... move along.Wink

<edit>Ah does squashfs only recognise files duplicates with the same name? There are at least 180K of dups with different names, probably only saving 60-120K compressed.</edit>

i have got virus littered through my multiple storage medias from when i connected frequently at internet cafes (windows) and commuted via usb flashdrives then backedup my flashdrives on my laptop (linux). the virus take the form foldername.exe and show as zero size.
problem is dudfinder wont find them with a search term "*.exe".
i can zip some of the virus and attach them to the forum if you want to test Twisted Evil Very Happy
pfind finds them ok but then i have to go searching to where they are to delete them one by one.
