xfdiff-cut is not working on a full hard drive install of Puppy. It always reports compared files to be identical.

The error message returned is:
Warning ** shm_open(/tmp/xffm.9310): Function not implemented

I (still) have to use full install to use my USB serial modem (see http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=30612), but I can't use xfdiff-cut in a full install! Sad

Try this:
Edit /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit, uncomment these lines:

##v2.20 some apps need shm (shared memory) (ex: xfdiff)...
#FREERAM=`free | grep 'Mem:' | tr -s ' ' | cut -f 5 -d ' '`
#QTRFREERAM=`expr $FREERAM \/ 4`
#mount -t tmpfs -o size=${QTRFREERAM}k shmfs /dev/shm

As to why xfdiff works from live-CD but needs the above for full install, I don't know.

That works great! Thanks very much.

It would be good to have a way to alert people to this when a full install is done. Perhaps when a full hard drive install is chosen, the installer could show a list of apps that need special configuration, like this:

xfdiff-cut: see /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit for instructions
app2: other instructions,
etc.

I've put a test into rc.sysinit, so if a full hd install then will execute that code.
