By clean install do you mean with a new pup00X file? If not try a new pup00X file and reinstall.

For the log information do the following

run wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
edit /etc/wvdial.conf
uncomment (delete the semicolon at the beginning of the line) the phone, username and password lines and enter your ISP dialup number, your username and your password respectively.
note the time and then run wvdial

this should allow you to see what errors are showing up.

if it still fails to dial your isp check the lines of /var/log/messages for anything after the time you start wvdial and attach it to your next post. There may also be a /etc/ppp/connect-errors, you can attach that as well.

Exactly. WvDial threw up something like Telephone number not correct or so. I am in India. Is it because the keyboard i selected is US and it thinks it is USA or something like that....?

Anyway will post what i get now.

Subject description: Ethernet connection.

Well, I have four pc's I rescued from the land-fill, or where-ever old pc's go, I bought several versions of Linux, and everything downloaded fine, except, the newbie I am, I can't get hooked up to the internet. Yes, I've read several pages of suggestions, but hey, if it's not completely broken, don't attempt to make things worse by doing something you have no idea about what you are doing! I'm more or less new to the pc game as it is, but hey, I'm totally lost with Linux, be it Puppy, PcLinux, Ubuntu, or whatever. Network cards, adapters, sheesh, what a mess for this baby boomer! If you ask me, pc anything needs standardization! candyman.[/b]
