Puppy 4.0: Trident Cyberblade graphics chipset WORKS !

#1 Post by heri »

Hello,

My old laptop is Toshiba Tecra 8200, it has Trident Cyberblade graphics chipset.
Previous versions of Puppy were unable to recognise this graphics chipset, and hence booting would fail.
Now on Puppy 4.0 during booting there is a new xorgwizard and the chipset is recognized without any problem and works out of the box.

I guess the xorgwizard is related to these posts:

To the creator of xorgwizard and Puppy Linux I just want to say: Thank you !

Cheers,

Triden Cyberblade grapchis chipset

#2 Post by usnica »

Were you able to get any hardware acceleration with the Trident chipset? My system has onboard Trident Cyberblade i7 graphics and I've always been able to get a normal display but it's slow. From what I've found specialized drivers for Trident were dropped at kernel 2.4 and I'm wondering if anyone has found a solution for this, other than add a video card (my MB only has PCI) to replace the onboard graphics.

Thanks
