Ardour 2 request

#1 Post by jcagle »

Has anyone compiled and dotpupped Ardour version 2?

I may try to compile it myself sometime, but I figured I'd check here first. Perhaps I won't have to re-invent the wheel.

OK, I take this as a "no".

Well, I will get this compiled and dotpupped for people sometime soon, I hope.

Compiling Ardour

#4 Post by bill »

Hi Jcagle,Glad to hear someone is working on Ardour,I even Dled Dyne-Bolic 2.5.2 because it was resident but no joy there either along with no network communication,no Alsa,No working Jack,so nothing in the audio department seemed to work. The brightside is "at least it booted up" the downside was "If I couldn't get communications to work,It left me a little lacking in the confidence department. cheers

This is great!!!!!

Sorry for me, that it doesn't work in Puppy 4.00. I better fire up an old 3.01 for recordings. :)

Code: Select all

# ardour2
/usr/lib/ardour2/ardour-2.4.1: error while loading shared libraries: libsamplerate.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Thanks

An Ardour package for Puppy Dingo

#10 Post by bill »

Hi Big_Bass,I tryed as well to get Ardour to work in Puppy Dingo 4 and all I managed to accomplish was to get the "Ardour" logo installed in the menu ,which just sits there and smells funny ! Fortunately I have only blown Puppy 4 up about three times but after a few file deletes was able to bring it back up "Clean" Thanks to all of you who are giving it a try.Anyway ,I wish you all good luck and hope I can be a recipient when you get it going.thanks, bill

That means that I have some libs in my system that you don't. The latest package for Puppy 4 works great here. Please run 'ardour2' from the terminal and see what output you get.

bill

if you boot version 3.01 or version 4.00

puppy pfix=ram

that will allow you to test any pet or dot pup on your computer
without making any changes to your computer

allowing you to sample any program on an official puppy
that has not been modified

this is the only true test to see if a package is working correctly or not
or you compromised your systems by other means

so to be 100% sure reboot your computer
puppy pfix=ram
navigate to this page and download the pet and install it

that is one of the best ways (because its the easiest) to debug a new app
on a clean system

*when you finish the session puppy pfix=ram
it will ask you if you want to save say no

Entering ardour2 in rxvt

#13 Post by bill »

Hi Zigbert:This is basically what it says,.
# ardour2
WARNING: Your system has a limit for maximum amount of locked memory!
This might cause Ardour to run out of memory before your system runs out of memory. You can view the memory limit with 'ulimit -l', and it is normally controlled by /etc/security/limits.conf
/usr/lib/ardour2/ardour-2.0: error while loading shared libraries: libFLAC.so.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
# ulimit -l
32

Also ,just learned something else,My mouse is a Logitech "Trackman Marble"Two button with center "wheel" PS2 and Ctrl C and Ctrl V will not work for copy and paste but Ctrl C after "highlighting" then going to this post and pressing down on the center wheel "Works" Yipee!

you forgot the first part puppy

so it looks like this

puppy pfix=ram

you get that option in the first 5 seconds of the boot screen

so be prepared and quick

note the program is a memory hog so you do need free memory
at least 100MB because this is a full blown professional tool

and it looks like you removed lib flac at some time
these are in the pet already
libFLAC.a
libFLAC++.a
libFLAC.la
libFLAC++.la
libFLAC++.so.5
libFLAC++.so.5.0.0
libFLAC.so.7
libFLAC.so.7.0.0

so it wont work with out that for sure

Ardour2 "Reason for no response on Ardour from menu"

#16 Post by bill »

Ah,I see the error of my ways here  ,I have the following .pets saved

ardour-2.0-i486-1kjz.pet

ardour-2.4.1.pet

and simply stating,I had the first installed instead of the second

I uninstalled the first ,rebooted, and installed ardour-2.4.1.pet and now I have the program responding but now I need to reconfigure the memory. Here is a rxvt listing .

well its clear that my pet package wasnt your problem it was another pet you installed
thats a good start from here its a lot easier

there is no need to run from rxvt now that the pet correctly installed and loaded

but since you pasted that message I will some what explain what you are seeing there

you havent created a session so there is nothing as inputs that you set

and the memory ... is a warning that you may need to adjust your configure file
if you encounter that your memory runs out before it should
that part I need to investigate and get back with you it may just be a warning
and the config file can stand as is

Ardour2 and about using console(rxvt)

#18 Post by bill »

Hi big_bass,The reason I used console here was to see what complaints I had since Ardour2 ,while it boots up doesn't seem to look anything like I had imagined and doesn't appear complete. In my quest of learning to carry my own water,so to speak  ,I was trying to address these issues one by one and being as how ulink was the first complaint, this is where I was focusing my attention.I still haven't got it figured out and I have burnt up the net looking. I appreciate your help here and do not wish to become a nuisance so I will do my best to look for answers and not laying all this work on others.I reckon it is the way everyone has to learn. cheers, bill

Ardour2 is up and running ! Yippee

#20 Post by bill »

Fine business big_ bass ,Looks like you hooked that one! :D

I have been playing with it and I think I understand why I got a warning from "ulimit" Songs of ".mp3" must be converted to ".wav" files before they can be imported to Ardour2.I used "Audacity" to load the Song.mp3 and then exported it as Song.wav. gxine plays the song.wav just fine with acceptable quality but when I imported this Song.wav to Ardour2 and played it,it had static and it hiccupped now and again while playing, just like it was cycling for ram.Now I need to try increasing the locked ram amount as you suggested early on.I put out a query on the forum about "ulimit" so maybe I will get that figured out.Anyway thanks a lot ,you have been a big help and considering who you had to help made it probably doubly hard. cheers, bill
