^^I think you compiled the wrong version of the package ! I guess SpinDoctor required Mixxx 1.6.0~beta 3 ! I am working on it, just getting the OpenGL thing to work.

After trying out Scons 0.96.1 , Scons 0.97 and Scons 0.98 , nothing works. There were problems in building the 0.96.1 n 0.97, so I build the 0.98 version which when used to compile Mixxx gives the error :

It seems both are buggy. Man, why couldn't they settle for make !!

Spindoctor,

I'm not sure whether openGL is a requirement for compiling mixxx, but it seems that the binary packages available have been compiled to need it. So whether you download the ubuntu 1.6.0 beta, or use ttuuxxx's 1.5.0 .pet, you would need to install openGL.

The only problem is there doesn't seem to be a separate openGL .pet in the ibiblio repository. I wonder whether you could see if the pup3 package would work:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/puppylinux/pet_packages-3/xorg_OPENGL-7.2.pet

Also, I don't know whether it has the same functionality as mixxx, but have you seen lmms?

hey muggins my version you need nothing at all. not even openGL, everything is included, works on a live cd with 0% installed.

wow!

A big thank you to all of you, especially ttuuxx for taking the effort.

I'm still astounished that the programm runs without installing any extra libraries!

Thank you!

If alcy compiles 1.6 I will try it for sure.
At least in windows I couldn't see any instabilities in this version.

It seems to work great on my Puppy 4.0 install. (At least I tried it with pfix=ram)

I tried to install Mixxx on my self-made Puppy 3.01 USB-Stick. It didn't work.

I got a message like "Not enough ROM" (Don't know exactly anymore, but I can try it again if it's important). My save-file is 512 MB and I got about 440 MB free. The difference between needed memory and available memory was not too big, so perhaps I could get some MBs free to install it.

But still 440 MB is a lot in terms of puppy linux Wink

Can you say anything about that?

By the way: Is there a step-by-step instruction how to use the dir2pet-script somewhere?

I wanted to make a .pet out of a program I managed to install to give the community something back, but I didn't really succeed.

Thank you

How to make a pet package
right click the mouse in the directory where the folder resides and select
window/terminal here
type in the terminal
dir2pet folder-name
hit enter and it starts the script, just follow the script.
If it needs a menu icon make sure it has a .desktop in the usr/share/applications
also if it needs an icon you can place it in a few areas, the easiest is
usr/share/pixmaps
and thats about edit, just edit the .desktop file and make sure the icon, exec, are located correctly

thank you!

I will try it again.

Is it normal, that the Mixxx-Package you created needs more than 440MBs?

Hi!

Just tried it with a completely new Puppy 3.01 CD and 606 MB free at the moment.

The Mixxx 1.05 pet simply doesn't work in 3.01

The installer replies:
Quote:
The mixxx-1.5.0.1.pet package has been downloaded to /root/.packages,
however there is not enough room to uncompress and install it.
The free space is 155295 blocks but it is estimated you will
need 175344 blocks temporarily for the expansion and install.

Note: If you are using a pup_save.3fs personal storage file,
it can be made bigger -- see Utilities menu.

This script will now delete the package and exit...
So much for my testing in 3.01 Wink

Well...

I tried your tip.
Used pet2tgz to make the pet a tgz.
Unzipped the files to a folder.
Moved all files to their according folders -- their path except the mixxx-directory. (I guess that was what /(thumbs) was standing for, right?)

Well it screwed up the puppy installation on my USB-stick.

Fortunatley no important data was on it.

I'll try a 4.0 installation now, although 3.01 seems more developed to me at the moment.
