With the EeePC, there were problems in getting the microphone to work. It was resolved by the proper settings in alsamixer. I checked my notes and worked on the 2goPC. With the notes, setting alsamixer for proper operation was not hard.

Open up alsamixer from the "Multimedia" entry of the Menu button on the task bar. Once the console window with alsamixer is opened, hit the "Tab" key to make the "all" text is in Red in the line labeled "View". This shows all the controls.

Use the "<" or ">" keys to go to the Mic entry (high lighted in Red). Hit the "space bar" key to select the microphone as the capture device. The mic volume will probably be 0. Use "up arrow" key to increase the volume to a value of 87.

Use the ">" key to move to the "Mic Boos(t)" entry. It will be muted and show a "MM" above the title. Press the "M" key to un-mute it. The extra microphone gain will make your recordings sound better.

Use the ">" key to move to the "Mic Sele(ct)" entry. There are two values for this, Mic1 and Mic2. Mic1 is the external microphone input. Mic2 is the internal microphone. In my limited experience, the internal microphone tend to have poor performance. An external headset and microphone works better in my opinion. But, you can try both for yourself. Use the "up arrow" key to select Mic2 and "down arrow" key for Mic1.

Exit from alsamixer, by pressing "Esc" key. You should be all set to record. You can use the mhWaveEdit under Multimedia to record and play back to see if everything is working to your liking. If not, then tweak with the various gain settings of alsamixer.
