How to paste a very long URL into the forum

#1 Post by Aitch »

Ever need to put a link to a really long URL in the post in this forum?

When you post, it screws up the rest of the thread, because its so long?

Edit [small blue button, top right], then

Go here, & paste it in & retrieve a short version

http://tinyurl.com/

Substitute short URL for long one, repost

Easy peasy, problem solved

Or, do something like this:
Click Here

@PG

Yes, I've been using that quite successfully until I tried to paste a map URL for Eric/caneri & it must have been about 45 characters long & included =[]||&()/\ and allsorts - real mishmash so it didn't work

you can see it here by 'quoting' my post May 28, 2008 3:46 am

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 1&start=75

to find the URL or just click on the 'this' and check out the full IPaddress

Using TinyURL was the only cure I could find

That's the proper way to do it, at least in virtually all the forums I've ever known.

TinyURL has a tendency to be a tad...weird. I've had problems with TinyURL's leading to sites that had nothing whatsoever to do with the link that the poster intended readers to see. :shock:
