deluge .pet/.pup Subject description: please compile package |
|
Hi
I'm very new to linux as to english. the only distribution i had not tortured to death on my elpic/via1000+ (runs like P800 - i mean the mobilphine (joking)) was and is puppy linux.
azureus eats the resources i have like a horse and let me nearly nothing o work left t. and i've found (via Linux-mint4 package side) the only alternative to azureus in deluge. never the less 5 days of searching the net gives me no solution of how to install ure application. in addition i will post some links, which seemed to help me somewhat - but I'm too stupid to manage it.
so, my only conclusion is to ask here and in the deluge-forum, if u could compile it for me. (man, that feels stupid) but perhaps its not the worst thing at all, because it would add that genial little torrent-file-share-client (~2mb written in phyton) to ure package list. Deluge is, how i read and experienced, the coolest thing to transform old machines to home servers containing a file-sharing system. old machines as file-server are good for puppy. chatch my drift?
i've asked in the deluge-torrent forum too and ill keep each other in the loop.
so long and thanx for all assistant replies.

Well if its just for torrents why would you want to use this application when you would need the python library which is very large to run it?
Why not use transmission? It works excellent for torrents
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?search_id=1498651578&t=29572
I could compile deluge for you but like I said it would be around 20+MB with python compared to 1kb for transmission.

hi ttuuxxx
yes. transmission is a good gui for the ctorrent, if i dont err. i stumble across it and decide that it gives much too less opportunity in handling the files while downloading.
with transmission running it is like the program doesnt even though my cpu, deluge shows up a bit but azureus infiltrate it completely.
for me (if i havent overseen something) it is often useful to download just some files out of a big torrent file or give priority to some and reduce bandwidth for other. in deluge it is done with a few clicks.
thanx
Bene
p.s. i'm not addicted to deluge, in fact i'm open for good new stuff. so if there is a program with that download speed, encryption feature and detailed file handling i will try it.

I'm using Transmission in my Puppy 2.17 install (it's not in Dingo by default for some reason), and it does let you download specific files. I'm not in 2.17 at the moment, and I don't remember what you have to click to see the file selection menu. If I get a chance (and I don't forget), I'll boot back into my 2.17 install and look for you.

hi
transmission is included in puppy400 too. i had made my decision. it should be deluge. .. but, i searched this forum again for other p2p clients and found nicotine. it seems to be quite nice, but requires phyton too like deluge.
in fact there i s a client i would love to use, thats the mldonkey. but, guys, obviously i had to commit im just not keen enough to get it running - even if the installation would success. but there will be a time..
its not easy to learn linux by ure self. but one step after an other, i wish to have the opportunity to answer - but right now im just good in asking for help.
so thanks for ure attention

Ok before you gets your hopes too high, First you'll need to find python 2.5 You can locate it here on the forum, then install
http://www.puppylinux.ca/tpp/ttuuxxx/alphatesting/deluge-torrent_0.5.9.1-1.pet
If your missing anything else just post it here and will find it, When you find the python link also post it here.
That way we can give proper steps on installing this application

hi it also needs boost, cxxlibs,gcc,python2.5.2,pycario ,pygobject, etc I just tried another way of doing
first uninstall python and deluge
then install my gslapt 4.0 located here, Once installed just click update, You'll find it in the setup menu
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=28994
but deluge didn't work for me So don't do it
Buttttt what did work is mldonkey
Download it with Gslapt, it will install, It didn't come with a menu entry or icon so I packaged one up, just install mldonkey first with gslapt then install the pet package and you have a menu item under internet once you resetX
enjoy

man--
i think gslapt is preinstalled in Firehydrant, but in the puppy400 its missing like transmission, but easy to find with the package manager. so first of all ive searched gslapt.
there in i found mldonkey and installed it in puppy400 without problems.
but had to allow sources from http://repository.slacky.eu/slackware-12.0/ (in gslapt | edit | preferences | sources). than i had installed mldonkey-menu.pet. restarted jwm klicked on mldonkey et voila! mldonkey is running! costs me 150mb ram as the cean puppy400- but i can live with that.
i hope the deluge.pet will just klick n run too. btw. isnt there a good summary about beginners tutorials to improve in linux (with less searching)?
when everything runns, i want on my system (looking forward with help from the community), ill upload it somewhere.

i think gslapt is preinstalled in Firehydrant, but in the puppy400 its missing like transmission, but easy to find with the package manager. so first of all ive searched gslapt. after installing it, i ve downloaded ure mldonkey-menu.pet. and ran it. wondering, why it wouldnt work, ive recognized, these who can read are clearly in advantage. so i tryed gslap for mldonkey,
but had to allow sources from http://repository.slacky.eu/slackware-12.0/ (in gslapt | edit | preferences | sources). it says it needs missing dependencies named cairo, but ive looked them up in gslap and they were allready markes as installed. so ive installed mldonkey package ignoring the warning "mldonkey: Depends: cairo >= 1.4.12-i486-1_slack12.0" ..mom.. ill reboot befor installing the mldonkey-menu.pet.
now ive installed the menu without errors, restarted jwm bklicked on mldonkey but there was the same reaction as i had installed only the menu. what is about that cairo thing? it was marked blue, three of them. im so sick of that transmission, ive to search all files sepereate and could not choose in the torrent flike, what to download.
sorry. here im stucked, perhaps the deluge.pet will just klick n run. isnt there a good summary about beginners tutorials to improve in linux (with less searching)?

just run gslapt again and select the same mldonkey package and click reinstall, it will download all the packages that you need, if cairo is needed install it, Sometimes with puppy some of the applications might be reduced, so when it ask in slackware to install something or upgrade/update its best to do it.
Mldonkey works perfect on puppy 4.0 thats the one I tried today with Gslapt 4.0 after my menu fix has been applied

Ok FH and dingo are based on 2 different versions of puppy.
You would need to run gslapt in each of them to properly setup mldonkey. You can just transfer over the programs that you downloaded with gslapt.
ttuuxxx
If you have any other issues with FH and you install it with Gslapt run
mlnet+gui
in a command line and see the output and post it here
Also install the Gslapt4.0 on fire hydrant its a newer version with updates.

horror! a few days without internet Subject description: hi again |

hi ttuuxxx
im not happy with mldonkey. first of all it is lagging but a more serious problem is puppy too slows down. and isnt fasting up anymore after deinstalling mldonkey. so i think ill change the puppy_400.sfs with a clean one..
if u got time left, couldnt u bind a .sfs package with deluge + dependencies? or, if there is an easy step by step tutorial how i could do it my own (i think of an .sfs package with my favorite programs in like skype, vlc, deluge, open office etc.. - open office.sfs ive allready found- its working perfect) could u lend me an arm and show me the way to it?
ill document, if i success the whole thing here for others.
tnx bene

Transmission does not support DHT right now.
That's why I also want some experts could compile a deluge package for Puppy.
Thanks
