ipod, iriver apps in TEENpup 2008 do they work for you?

#1 Post by john biles »

Hello Everyone,
As I don't have an ipod or iriver, I had to guess what was required for these apps to work in TEENpup 2008.
As I have never read that anyone is having problems with detecting their ipod, iriver etc, I don't know if they really work.

I require feedback to confirm that they work or maybe you had to do something to get them to detect you ipod etc.

Any feedback on this would be helpful.

EDIT
For anyone who wants to obtain these two applications to install separately:

gtkpod is for iPods -

Gnomad2 is for iriver models which use the MTP protocol -

Hello tempestuous,
I don't know if you miss read my post or just wanted to pass on your success with Gnomad2.
As TEENpup 2008 comes with gtkpod and Gnomad2 I was just interested in seeing if these 2 apps where working for TEENpup 2008 users.
As I haven't had any feedback good or bad I don't really know if gtkpod and Gnomad2 actually work or not in TEENpup 2008. I ask this so that I can make improvements in the next release of TEENpup.

Oops sorry. Actually I was confused by the post, itself. The critical information (which applications are installed in TeenPup) is contained in the thread title.
So I have edited my post so that it's useful.

I recently had access to an iriver Clix. I can confirm that Gnomad2 installed in Puppy 3.02alpha1 will detect all files on the Clix.

I am a recent new fan of TEEN, lots of great stuff and my two teenagers like it. When I tried to hook my ipod up, it didn't recognize it, no matter what I did. ???

Hello brymway,
Thank you for answering this post. As I have no ipod, I couldn't test if gtkpod worked or not.
If someone reading this has got gtkpod to work for them in TEENpup, can you please post here how you did it so that I can include it in the next update of TEENpup 2008.

John:
This isn't an ad for this company.
But it is the only thing that worked on an 8 gig
Apple ipod Nano, which my wife won in an online
competition and gave to my daughter.
What a pig.
Why do people give away all this money to Apple?

I could load it up and copy songs but they didn't work
if you disconnected the iPod from Quicktunes.
Booted Puppy to see if I could copy to any hidden directories
and copy songs there to get it working?
And yes I could copy them...
and play them but only when connected to my computer.
I could of course copy everything back to the hard drive.
Puppy 4 Beta? I think was used.

I downloaded heaps of supposed apps that could help me.
I could transfer them back to the hard drive but getting
that piece of crap to play any songs when not connected
to the computer just would not work.....
and I spent hours on different forums...
fixes...downloads etc.
Anger management or a fix was needed.

I knew this was a dodgy crapfest from Apple...but wow
they beat Microsoft anytime.
Go get a cheap MP3 player.
And if you connect with iTunes on a different computer...
beware your songs could be deleted...
these guys are good eh?

CopyTrans:
So this software worked perfectly...and allowed me
to copy 100 songs....shareware limitation ....
until you pay up US$19.90..
//////////////////

At the computer markets at North Rocks last week

http://www.northrockscomputermarket.com.au/index.php

cheap MP3 players...were down to $3.

///////////////

So next time I boot Teenpup 2008 I will try the
additional pets if I cannot get extra songs working
on this wonderful Nano

Good luck mate....
save the world from Apple.
Teenpup was a great release.

/////////////////
CopyTrans

Your library is empty, but your music is still on your iPod?

Do not connect your iPod to iTunes and risk
an unwanted synchronization or deletion!

CopyTrans will transfer all your iPod songs, playlists,
ratings, play count, last played, album artworks,
videos, movies, TV shows, audiobooks and podcasts (incl. subscriptions)
and import them to iTunes in their correct order and iTunes categories!

http://www.copytrans.net/copytrans.php

Feedback:
Don't believe me about Apple deleting songs?

" What can I say, my computer crashed and lost all my
itunes 3500 songs 360 purchesed I was PISSED to say the least!!
I have 2 ipods and plugged one in the computer thinking it
would go to itunes and instead erased ALL of my songs. "

////////////

For $20, this is worth the price...
I might even buy it myself for my daughter,
if I can't get your next release or the current Teenpup to work.

Of course if you were evil minded you could use Returnil
on a Windows computer

http://www.returnilvirtualsystem.com/in ... rsonal.htm

initialise it......install the copytrans....copy your hundred songs...
reboot install copytrans ad infinitum and keep going.'..etc..etc.

Of course that is only a Proof of Concept idea...
and I'm sure that no-one here would be tempted to
go any further....you cheapskates!
And Returnil would lose anything else you did in
that Windows session there, and changes...... docs......... as well.
In other words I'd disconnect theiPod between reboots.

Sharepod..................free to copy 2 and fro from iPod.

http://www.getsharepod.com/

SharePod needs the Microsoft .NET 2 Framework to work correctly.

http://www.getsharepod.com/help/

"""""""""""""
Just tried this John....and it works.

I hate using the Net 2 Framework,
but I have to know these things for potential customers
who trash their computers.

Anyone that could get iPods to work in Puppy
will definitely increase our presence on the net.

I wouldn't buy one at any price...
and the for potential grief..
