Stem Linux - from the big to the small

#1 Post by Lobster »

Damn Small Linux being Knoppix/Debian based should be sufficient to start up this small Stem Linux
http://debian.cante.net/stem/

Any good? Anything to be gained?

Yes, this seems to be a very interesting project.
Tell me Lobster, did you have something in mind ?

I have come across another distro, that never made it.
I looks very similar. So, a debian based puppy ???
Well, the whole hotplug & kudzu hardware detection system
has gotten a lot of interest.
Why just the other day I had synaptic up & going on puppy.
trying to tinker with it & make it fit for puppy.
But like masny projects I begin, it went nowhere.
Heaven is on the way, until then let's get the truth out!

Bless you for suggesting I have a mind [Lobster wipes away Crusty tear . . .]

Ubuntu - (The system I was using for only one thing - digital camera importing is now taken care of with Nathans gkam gimp plug in - this is so great !!!) - see even I get excited . . . ahem . . .

Ubuntu and Knoppix (my first real attempt to switch to Linux) are both based on Debian. DSL has derivatives. Feather and featherweight for example. We do not.

We have had 3 major puplets (Puppy forks)
Johns Murgas perl and opera 50 meg Puplet
Pizzasgood Icewm based Puplet (new one soon)
Graphpup recent graphic version from Nathan - still have not downloaded that :(

(have I missed any )

None have yet captured the incentive to create a new distro based on Puppy. Barry has hinted at Puppy2 (which I have codenamed 'hairy nosed wombat' after a mixup on my part - this was the name for a pre 1.0.0 Puppy.)

. . . so the idea is there somewhere . . .

You are a good Puppy.
We lost your dotpup Python :(
Do we have Open Office 2 working :(
(another of your dotpups)

What is to be done?

Lobster, I am a little confused. You say in your post that you can get Stem Linux started in DSL. But in the link it says you need a full install of Debian to use Stem Linux. Did I miss something?
