Version 4 pets list yours here Subject description: list here version 4.00 pets |
|
what I have noticed is version 4 pets may require extra libs that are in already in version 3.01 or have extra libs that version 3.01 doesnt
sorting this can be difficult and they get lost in numerous threads
so lets make this a list of version 4.00 pets
and pets confirmed to work with version 4.00
I invite all others to post your findings here I wont list everyone in the forum because you are all invited and welcomed a community data base and you can update your pets to keep this list up to date with the latest versions
make your own post one stop shopping
note: ttuuxxx has some problems with the service he getting on his server
if one of these down loads is corrupted use Gftp for downloads it has built in checking of the packages it should be fixed soon
would save a lot of time for everyone

Well VLC is a difficult program to compile, first you have to compile all the
Requirements, if your doing it on puppy 4.0, I wouldn't recommend using earlier versions, Just for size and stability. So thats about 30+ programs to compile. Its a big task for anybody. It would be also great if you could package each of the requirements. Would be very handy for other applications.
If not its totally understandable

You know, time permitting, I just might give it a shot. But I have never done that before. I've seen Barry's info on creating pet files...is that essentially what I am doing with with each of these requirements? Any tips would be helpful...

well steve tempestuous the puppy user/developer has some really good documents on mplayer, how he compiled it, Do a search on the forum for mplayer in the title, and read up
because compiling vlc your be able to --with and without features etc. Its actually one of the hardest applications to compile because of all the options and parts, but hey give it a shot.
If you search around the vlc site you'll see VLC 9.0 Beta in the developers section, Maybe give that one a shot. I had it running but didn't play, I did the easy way of reusing packages from the 3 series and thats where I ran into troubles, Still took me over 10hrs to build it.
when I configure I usually use
./configure --prefix=/usr
make
make install
then go fishing through the code and find all the locations where it was extracted.
Make you pet packages
dir2pet (directory name without brackets)
and thats about it, if you have any problems just ask
I usually compile with a live cd and my devx_400.pet package but
you need a lot of ram and swap space
my pc is 2gigs of ddr2 800 and 7 gigs of swap.
that way all I do is reset the pc without saving and its all clean and fresh again.
hope that helps

Oh ya when you extract a package it usually contains a INSTALL file , open it as text and read it, Usually it gives you the compiling options
--with-mp3-support Use the libmad library to add MP3 files support
to GCDMAster.
--without-xdao Disable build of gcdmaster completely.

I was thinking of establishing a grid for faster compilation !
Anyway, I have got only one .pet made , Wireshark 1.0.0 Network Analyzer, previously known as Ethereal. Sorry for the rapidshare link, couldn't attach it here.

Hey ttuuxxx
I love fishing but not for files
after make
new2dir make install ** all on one line
that makes everything you need go into the folder no fishing
then you can convert that to a pet
that will save you alot of time

What we need is a guide to compiling for new users, Not setting up devx but the actual methods and ummmm short-cuts that work.
well I'm going to go an try it right now,
thanks again

Whew...I was saved in having to compile VLC.
charnisingh sent me a pm and had been using vlc already with 4.0. He (for lack of a known pronoun) has already uploaded the sfs to the puppylinux.ca site.
I then followed ttuuxxx's advise on converting to a pet package.
I'm going to try and attach the VLC pet file here but, if it is too large, then just follow the steps I took and give VLC a try.
I converted it to pet and got it running on my machine, but I haven't given it a thorough run down...feel free. I plan to use it a lot more once I get this remaster finished.
Edit: yeah, couldn't get vlc pet on as an attachment...if anyone has a good place for me to upload, please advise, otherwise please follow aforementioned steps.

Hi ttuuxxx,
thanks for your help, no dependencies are shown by PETget any more
and following is the result:
1, FINAL PET is made.
2. menu entery is OK.
3. when clicking on menu entry, vlc interface comes up.
4. when played audio file, stereo sound is fantastic.
5. when played DVD file, picture quality is very fine, the problem of no sound persists. what could be reason, as a layman i can not guess,
nor i can do any thing more than i did as i am only a worker with lot of spare time and do not understand any tech. problems.
i do not mind Passing PET to some tech. person who would like to
find the reason and finish the work.
thanks and regards.
PS: PET is about 19 mbs.
I would upload it somewhere free, and give the link to maybe bigbass he's pretty good with that stuff, also it could just be a sound configure in the preferences. you could send me a link also, but I'm very busy at the moment with work/kde/family. It might take some time before I could trouble shoot it, Have you ran it from console? And see if any errors during a dvd play?

__________
PS: in the meanwhile i tested VLC-0.8.6f in puppy 3 fatfree and required libs were added, now it will work in puppy 3 too but with the same result as mentioned by me to ttuuxxx.
HELP REQUESTED TO COMPLETE THE WORK

This thread started out as a reference list for pets that work with Dingo.
Very useful I thought.
Now it has turned into a query into how to compile vlc, etc.
Can we start a new thread with just a list of pets for Dingo please and keep it pure.
Please ask your questions in the 'Beginners' or 'Users' section.
