Multiget: wxGtk-based file downloader |
|
http://multiget.sourceforge.net/
| Quote: | Mutliget file downloader is programmed in C++ and has a Graphic-User-Interface (GUI) based on wxWidgets.
It supports HTTP/FTP protocols which covers the requirements of most users.
It supports multi-task with multi-thread on multi-server.
It supports resuming downloads if the Web server supports it, and if you like, you can reconfigure the thread number without stopping the current task. It's also support SOCKS 4,4a,5 proxy, ftp proxy, http proxy.
We intriduced new feature, that is so called P2SP, or in other words, get file from multiple servers, and combine the data from different sites into one file! This makes downloads complete much faster than all the most other download tools.
MultiGet also supports switching language dynamically, you can choose English, Chinse, German and soon other interface languages. Generally it will automatic choose a proper language for you.
At this time MultiGet can run on Windows XP/2000, almost all Linux desktops, MacOsX, BSDs. |
This program needs wxGtk libs installed. These can be downloaded from here, or fromthis location
Run via Menu->Internet->Multiget, or by entering multiget in a console.

One thing I do like is a Multi-thread downloader
Man it makes life so much nicer, I always use ProZilla but The Gui is very plain and not many options this looks way nicer and great job finding it, Too bad that it uses wxGtk libs, Thats always a size blower, but seems to be used with more and more applications these days so I might have to include it with my releases. Well thanks

Thanks heaps for this one muggins. This is very much like the Windows download manager FlashGet that I have been used to using.
MultiGet also works with the Seamonkey FLASHGOT extension so it can be fully integrated into the browser and provides many options with context sensitive right mouse clicking on a download link.
The only thing missing with this for me is the ability to schedule download times so that I can easily have large downloads start up during my off peak data allowance.
Thanks,
cartz.

@ttuxxx,
Yes the size of the wxGtk libs is definitely a problem, but if you were thinking of including this in one of your releases, I think the idea would be to include a bunch of different apps that share the same wxGtk libs. Off the top of my head, apps like 4pane, wxcam, and maybe one of the wx based IDE's.
@cartz,
I don't know about the timer issue...maybe you could start multiget via pschedule?

Multiget: wxGtk-based file downloader |

It definately integrates nicely. I may not have a use for it currently, but that doesn't mean I may not need it in the near future. Is it possible that this could eventually become a replacement for wget?

KF6SNJ,
I can't imagine wget ever being replaced in standard puppy. It's the only download utility I use & I find it bullet-proof. But there will always be a need for gui-based apps for people that aren't comfortable with the commandline.

This is true. I don't mind using the commandline. However, I was simply curious with regards to the future of Puppy's development. I may look into remastering that coolcnc and including this program with it. I have been reading about robot image database ideas on a robot forum I just got into and perhaps this could be useful in that application.....

Hi, Thanks Muggins for all the great addons you provide.
If I could ask for some help though. This downloader and Wxdfast look like they provide as good features as I was used to with Windows downloaders(multi-threading) and I would really like to use either one but I get a segmentation fault with both.
I use Puppy 2.15. Is it because that Puppy is too old?
Is there anything I can do to find out what the problem is?
Thanks

Hello lapis,
If you try running it in a console, does it mention any missing library files? Just enter multiget in a console. In the meantime I can hunt around & see whether I've got any 2.15 cdroms. But I can't see why it shouldn't work, as I've compiled it on 2.16.

The only error I get is following:
(process:26059): Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library
(multiget:26059): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback 'C' locale.
Segmentation fault
I think I did something ages ago to cause the gdk-warning but everything else seems to run ok so I just ignored it.

lapis,
and you've downloaded & installed the wxGtk .pet? I didn't find a 2.15 cdrom, but tried it on an earlier 2.11 puppy, and it seems to work OK. Because 2.11 wasn't using .pets, (at least I think it wasn't?), I just converted the wxGtk & multiget .pets to .tgz archives, extracted, & copied across the relevant files, then multiget ran from a console without complaint.
Does running wxdfast in a console generate the same error?

I tried copying the files directly as you suggested and overwriting everything but the same result.
Wxdfast gives the same error.
I have also done the ldd multiget command but it does not say any libraries are missing.

And wxdfast has the same segmentation error?

Yes exactly the same.
I just tried 4pane and get the same error with it to. Maybe I broke something with one of the libraries that these wx widget programs use.

Well I'm not sure what's causing your wx problems. I find it unlikely that you would have scrambled an essential library file, & it's only having segmentation effects on wx-based apps. It's more likely to be a gtk library incompatibility, where the wxGtk is accessing some gtk function that isn't available in your pupversion...and yet it seems OK with pup2.11!
As a short-term alternative, have you tried any of the other gui downloaders? Search the forum for urlgfe, d4x*, aria, prozilla, pwget, xwget...I've run out here. If you've got a working java installation, there are also several java-based downloaders available.
