Ok I've been using this console for a few days now and let me tell you its great, You can copy/paste with the mouse. Set an image as the background or even have a transparent background, all within a menu, Plus you can have terminal tabs just like a browser, really cool.
have fun
ttuuxxx

its located at Menu/Utility/Sakura
also icons were included if you wanted a desktop shortcut

@@@@UPDATED WITH Pizzasgood fix for arrow and delete keys @@@@

Thanks ttuuxxx, I like it and it is working fine on Dingo, but how do you get the Commodore 64 look?
big_bass wrote:how do you make the transparent background
For transparent background: Right click in the console... options... set opacity level

You do know there was already a .pet in the official PETget repo, right? Or is this just a newer version?

One problem with replacing rxvt with sakura is that some scripts change the colors in rxvt, but sakura doesn't accept those parameters. So either those scripts would need to be altered, or a wrapper would need to be set up that drops any options that sakura doesn't handle.

Barry tried replacing rxvt once already, a few versions back, and there were enough howls by the dog pack that he relented and put it back in. Rxvt should be kept until it dies. Any other console should be in addition (probably as a pet package), not as a replacement. Anyway rxvt works just fine, and lots of users have set up parameters to customize it and don't want to fiddle that again. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Rxvt does that too.

Well lets just say Rxvt is nice in a simple way, It does its job very well, If you want eye candy which most of us do, Then Rxvt falls behind, kind of like if you want to go out to a night club for some drinks, Well lets see
-The first bar is called, "Club Rxvt"
it has drinks, bar, table and chairs and a few nice looking ladies. You spend your whole night setting back admiring the scenery and go home alone. THE END
-The second bar is called "Club SAKURA"
it has drinks, bar, table and chairs and a few nice looking ladies
But wait all of a sudden it has music and a dance floor with lasers and lights, The ladies get off their chairs and start bust'in a move.
You then get off your chair and start doing the grinding monkey dance.
Then you accidentally slip on a banana peel and fall on your butt. The ladies start to laugh and so do you, The tall blond bends over and and reaches out her hand to you. Meanwhile your face is red and blushing and the blond says "How Cute, your blushing, I like it when a Man is in touched with his inner feelings."
You then get up and dust your pants off as she walks away, Suddenly The blond yells out " Come over to my table."
You then strut your stride over to the blonds table where you spend hours talking and drinking. 3am rolls by and the Bar tender comes over to your table and says, "Ok its 3am time to go, you don't have to go home but you can't stay here."
The blond says to you thats ok we can always go back to my place for a night cap. Which you did without even giving it a second thought. What a great night indeed.
The next day you wake up and your not alone, The blond is laying beside you and you look over on the nightstand. A book of matches was setting on the table. you grab the matches and read the text, it says "SAKURA just what your Console Needed"

Hope this helps LOL

ps sorry I was bored.

i suggest VTE as a console replacement ( maybe sakura uses it also) because it supports unicode input/output for non-english languages ( for oriental languages it need's scim to be used)
that's very good for russian language because you do not need to load spacefic fonts and keymaps
it work by itself!
also you can set a transparent windows

for puppy 3 vte can be installed via gslapt

yes it uses the vte libs :)
probably the same just more options. More of a desktop application than a server application. I don't think it will ever replace rxvt well not right now anyways, because I tried to replace it and it worked fine, But when I ran the petget manager it wouldn't work right, once I uninstalled .Sakura. rxvt/petget was working fine again.
How I did it was I renamed Sakura as rxvt and made a pet and installed it. The open terminal here in the right click menu worked fine, The desktop Console Icon worked fine, Just petget didn't work right, Might be a coding issue. Oh well I'll use the 2 applications for now until I can figure something out.

nice backgrounds buddy, way nicer than jet-black :)
if I could only figure out how to get Sakura to work with the petget manager, I would be happy to get rid of rxvt forever :)

This is great! Tabbed interface for all apps. that can use them I've always said.

Pizzasgood brings up a really important point, rxvt incompatabilities.
I'm writing an app. that uses a console for file display, so I'll have to call rxvt explicidly.
If Sakura is included in Barry's Puppy releases, maybe I'll make it the default.

Getting it to work with PETget without altering PETget wouldn't be hard. Just write a script named /usr/bin/rxvt that parses the parameter list, removing everything that Sakura can't handle. Then it would pass what's left to Sakura itself.

As far as I'm aware, the only important parameter ever passed to RXVT is the -e <command>, which Sakura does support. Everything else is just icing (colors and such).

Or you could just go through the PETget script and remove the extra paramters. The problem with that approach is that there are several more scripts with the same issues that you'd need to track down. (Maybe run a search program that can read files and locate anything containing the string "rxvt").

IMHO, the former method is simpler than the latter. Especially because it doesn't break any third-party programs that the user might install.

I gave this a try (I've been wanting tabbed console windows), but I have a slight problem. Everything installs fine, but backspace does not function properly. It removes the last char from the input stream, but the screen still shows the char and adds a strange symbol to represent the backspace. The arrow keys have similar issues.

Anybody else have this problem?

The -e for execute is definitly needed, but the colors is reletively important also.
Kinda like writing html for different browsers, you could write apps. with a test for Sakura
& feed it the proper commands, & default to rxvt if Sakura isn't available.
This is a pain, & it doesn't do anything for other apps. that use rxvt.

Dear Puppians,

I also like Sakura and the tabbed interface. My problem is that the backspace keys, delete and arrow keys don not work. I looked at /etc/termcap but was not able to determine the problem. It would be nice if somebody would provide some advice. Thanks in advance...

With kind regards,
vovchik
