basic info
ok i can figure out with 'uname' that its:
1.) puppy linux
2.) kernel version
but is it... woof? lucid? quirky? wary? what the?
mine might be a "lupu.." flavor; as that was the save file offered name....
is there some catalog of these distros? and their respective devXXX.sfs's
or a console command that will specify this is info?
or even a list of the most common distro-info commands...
'there sure are a LOT of 'puppies' out there'
after reading 85+ pages of any given topic, subject, search results, etc. from the forum to discover that it really does not apply to; or work with, the the version concerned gets kinda frustrating..
btw:
the wellminded.com search is about the only one of the above listed that comes even close to whatever i was looking for......(insert u2 music here)
abtw:
please don't waste your time or mine discussing the finite points of grammar, or punctuation. when you could be attempting to solve any given problem...as my professor used to say if you don't know, don't answer, ...don't freaking guess! (she used much stronger words)
we live in an acronymic world here in the web...goi!

As great as Google searching is, it ain't perfect.
Google does not search the "code box" data.
Google does not search the "code box" data.
Code: Select all
anything in here is not searched

anything in here is not searched
Suprimoman
Try typing [ code]*.*
(without the space which I had to add to prevent it opening a code box ) into this search [at 'all these words'] - it seems to work reasonably OK
http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q ... as_qdr=all
tip: you can specify when by adding detail in the date dropdown box, if you know what you are looking for
There may be better implementations, though

I always just use this in google:
for the forum:
query terms site:murga-linux.com
other puppy sites:
query terms site:puppylinux.*
barry's blog
query terms site:bkhome.org
... yields almost identical results
& here is another little tip for the day
since I prefer google over bing.com, I ad this to my /etc/hosts file:
72.14.204.99 bing.com

To get you started, heres my most used forum search technique.
In google (or search engine of choice), typeCode: Select all
site:murga-linux.com my search
Then add murga to search terms or 'search within results'. (Our forum genius and genius keyword, too )
That's simple and often enough.
Makin' it easy to get in and swim.
I didn't find in this thread...

I’m using Lucid Puppy version 5.1.1, (released Sep 2010 ) and trying to use the Puppy Linux Discussion Forum Search tool to find exact wording or phrases. I have tried with these quotation marks ( ‘ ’ ) and with these ( “

Try using full quotes, "", in the wellminded search tool [google forum search]
http://www.wellminded.com/puppy/pupsearch.html
or try allintext:xxxxxxx in that tool, quoting what you want found as xxxxxxx

Thanks for the suggestions Oui!
It is always good to know the tricks for making a
search more effective and efficient.
This method works through the Scroogle Scraper
as well.
