Hi all,

I'm new in Puppy Linux and I decided to test the TigerPup version, based on Puppy 3.01.

On my recent desktop computer it works perfectly (even if I get no sound...) but when I test it on my old laptop (dell latitude LS), I receive this error, while computer is on the screen "Booting Puppy Linux..." :

Searching for Puppy files in computer disk drivers...pup_301.sfs not found, dropping out to initial ramdisk console...
/bin/sh: can't access tty: job control turned off

I saw someone is having the same issue on Puppy 4 on this forum but I lost the thread link, and there wasn't any response.

Nobody has an idea ?

You didn't specify if Puppy was installed, booting from CD only. Not that it matters for the purpose of my post.

I'm painfully aware of the exact complaint you posted. It plagued myself and others in version 2.17 But I've not seen it show up with any frequency in newer versions.

Here's exactly how it went for me with 2.17 and 2.17.1

Boot from CD - OK
Install as Frugal - got the error message you posted
Install as Full - OK

Very important to note, most 2.17 users didn't have this problem and that is clearly the case with 3.01.

That's appear when I try to boot from the CD Sorry for this imprecision.

No other specs?

Dell can be painful.

Either try Rudipup or some of Rudys commands.

Type puppy in front of the first command.
Once you type the first letter p (lowercase )
Puppy does not boot until you hit enter.
More helpful people will no doubt pitch in or give you a link.

But more Dell specs please.

For my laptop DELL specifications, here they are :

400MHz
64MB RAM
4.6GB HDD

ATAPI CD (24X reading)
PS/2 mouse...
1 x USB 1.1


I tried to boot with the specified boot commands, but it the same : error message about pup_301.sfs not found...


May my little RAM quantity be the cause ?

The TTY problem occurred in my case because I have a SATA harddrive. Install Puppy 4 with the 2.6.25 kernel - that solved it for me.
