ATI fglrx 8.5 Video driver for 4.1A |
|
Here's a pet package for the ATI fglrx 8.5 Video driver, it includes the missing Xorg modules/libraries needed for DRI. See this page for a list of supported cards:
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/catalyst_85_linux.html
After installing the package reboot.
Note: You can't restart X once the fglrx driver is installed and running, the file system becomes unstable, you must reboot.

You mean fglrx-8.493, I guess? It's the latest one so far.
If someone is interested in a .pet for Puppy 3.01, please, read the installation instructions and dowload it from here.

Yeah, you are right! Sorry, I've just noticed that "8.5" is mentioned in the name of the installer as well.
It does look a bit odd. If we follow the first of your links directing right to 8.5 we arrive to the page
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/catalyst_85_linux.html
where "8.493" is mentioned.
So, why do they have 2 names for the same thing? Strange...

Does this work for Puppy 4? Or does it only work for 4.1?

This was only for 4.1alpha 1 or 2. Barry has changed kernels since then so it's not really good for anything now.

UH OH I installed it on my Puppy 4 machine. I don't see any problems at the moment. I haven't tried playing a game yet though.

I think there is a packaging error in the russian package for Puppy3.
libGL and many others install to /usr/X11R7/lib/xorg/.
I think correct would be:
/usr/X11R7/lib/.
libGLw.so is a symlink to libGL.so.1.2, so to a wrong lib.
The real libGLw files miss.
I repackaged it for tests (I can not test it myself, my card is not supported).
I also changed the pinstall/puninstall scripts.
I did not add missing .desktop files for the menu.
Run fglrxinfo from a consolewindow, to check if it works, and examine /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
Note:
After installation, you might have to reboot, so that the free radeon/dri drivers get unloaded, or fglrx cannot load.

Backup your savefile first, this package is untested

Hi folks, working on a successor to wNOP and TigerPup, where compiz-fusion loads automatically, if the graphics card can support it. I'm a bit confused by this thread... is this pet for puppy 4.1? Will it work on puppy 4.1.1? What do I need to do if it doesn't? I don't have an fglrx card, and would appreciate help getting this running, it's for Project Ripple, which uses only Compiz-Fusion as the window manager. Cheers!

Hmm, Looking for a .PET file for 4.1.1, I found this and tried it. This works great! (I have a fglrx card)
However, I am wanting to also use this in a remaster. Simply copying the PET's files is not working... am I missing something here?

Is there a mirror of this file? The download is going EXTREMELY slow. By the way, is this the newest version right now in .pet form? Anyone else got a newer one?

I could download it without problem.
You mean this?:

If you still cannot download, I may mirror it.

Nevermind I was able to download it. It was a really slow download for me for some reason though.

After I installed the .pet it said I was missing the dependency in /usr/XR11R7/bin/fglrx_xgamma of the library file: libfglrx_gamma.so.1.

It is in:
/usr/X11R7/lib/xorg/
Petget sometimes finds not all dependencies, if they are not in the usual locations.
But maybe they MUST be there for the ATI driver.
If the pet does not work, move or better first just copy these files
from:
/usr/X11R7/lib/xorg/
to:
/usr/X11R7/lib/
libatiadlxx.so
libfglrx_dm.a
libfglrx_dm.so.1.0
libfglrx_gamma.a
libfglrx_gamma.so.1
libfglrx_gamma.so.1.0
libfglrx_pp.a
libfglrx_pp.so.1.0
libfglrx_tvout.a
libfglrx_tvout.so.1
libfglrx_tvout.so.1.0
But as it was stated before, that the pet works, you should not need to do this.
