Wxmusic .pup won't install

#1 Post by ol_smokey »

I'm having trouble installing a .pup (wxmusic).
I've downloaded the .pup and double clicked on the icon as normal.
This brings up xarchiver (0.2.8-6) which lists all the wrappers found and their supported extensions.

What I seem to be unable to do is then extract the files or run an installer.
I'm not sure I should be around a computer not being able to do this and quite frankly I'm embarassed at the height of my stupidity.

Please put me out of my misery.

Just noticed that.pup is not in the list of supported extensions. Is this right?

Assuming you're on a more recent version of Puppy you'll need the dotpuphandler pet package installed as the .pup is an older format.

So, go to Install and locate the dotpuphandler.

Cheers,

cartz.

I believe you can use pup2pet.
Open a console and type
pup2pet /directory/filename.pup

Then you should be able to click on the .pet to install.

ol_smokey,

if you're using pup4, then this is the package cartz is referring to.

Thanks Muggins,

I've downloaded and installed that and now I realise that I forgot to mention I'm running NOP 4.00 rather than Puppy 4.00. Will this mean that I'm running Thunar and not Rox-Filer? If so does that leave me at a dead-end?

Cheers

I know nothing about how to get the package going with Thunar, or even whether there would be any problems, but any .pup file can be renamed to a .zip file, then if you extract it somewhere & either copy across the internals, or symlink them to their proper locations, made to work.

It might make things clearer if you gave a link to the actual package you're trying to get going.

ol_smokey,

I'm not sure whether you're still having problems with this, but if you've installed Mu's wxMusik .pup, then you should have the file /usr/bin/wxMusik. While I don't know about Thunar, or how you can add a program to it's menu structure, you should still be able to use wxMusik by dragging this file onto your desktop. You can then right-click this, choose "Set Icon", and drag the icon from /usr/share/wxMusik/data onto the popup.

If it still doesn't work, make sure you've installed these 2:

http://puppyfiles.org/dotpupsde/dotpups ... C.so.4.pup
http://puppyfiles.org/dotpupsde/dotpups ... ylists.pup

Maybe someone familiar with Thunar can advise how to add to menu?

Thanks Muggins,

However I still haven't managed to install the .pup yet as it isn't obvious how to extract in Thunar. The pup2pet method isn't working either - although that could be me getting it wrong.

I'm completely lost with Thunar! The thing is that a .pup file is really a .zip at heart, so if you copy it to /tmp/wxMusik.zip, can you extract that? (or you can do unzip wxMusik.zip in a console).

Then after extraction, if you then open the archive FILESYSTEM.tgz, and extract this to /, then you'll end up with wxMusic in /usr/bin directory.
(or enter tar -zxvf FILESYSTEM.tgz -C / in a console).

Then try running wxMusik in a coonsole & see whether any errors are generated &, if not, listen to some music!

Thanks again Muggins,

OK I have managed to extraxt the WXMusik pup by renaming to zip and that has installed to usr/bin. When I tried to run it from console it gave errors regarding missing libflac so I did the same with that:

renamed it to .zip and then extracted the FILESYSTEM.tgz to root.

Tried again to run from console and got the following error again:

sh-3.00# /usr/bin/wxMusik
/usr/bin/wxMusik: error while loading shared libraries: libFLAC.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Used pfind to look for the file and all it took me to were the .pup and .zip files in /tmp and /initrd.

Any further ideas?

libFLAC should be in /usr/lib/

try the attached one. It's grabbed from my Puppy 4 system

I really would like to see you succeed with wxMusik. I haven't got it to run here, but haven't tried too hard.

Good Luck!

ol_smokey,

something must have gone amiss with your extraction of libFLAC.so.4.pup. Because if you rename it to a .zip, then extact from this FILESYSTEM.tgz, then extract this to /, this deposits these files in /usr/lib:

Code: Select all

libFLAC.so libFLAC.so.4 libFLAC.so.4.1.2
Perhaps you've extracted them & they've ended up somewhere else. Try searching for them with:

Code: Select all

find / -name libFLAC*

Hi Zigbert and Muggins,

Thanks for bearing with me on this.

I installed Zigberts liFlac.pet which appered to install fine with PetGet.

Tried to run wxMusik from termianl and got this error message:

sh-3.00# /usr/bin/wxMusik
/usr/bin/wxMusik: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory so I installed libstdc++-5.0.6 from Puppy Package Manager and success!! wxMusik runs with no erros in console.

Thanks again for all your help and I'll feed back any further problems.

Yup it found all my media files and tagged them up automatically and plays OK too. Not sure if it reads .wma files though so I'll need to translate them to .mp3.

I'll post here if anything starts going wrong.

WXmusik available in Argolance music store

#18 Post by Pelo »

SFS avaiable
WXmusik available in Argolance music store from France or his TooPpies precise, but not only. I give the link soon.
However in spite of Argolance 's opinion, WXmusik will not run everywhere !
Boutique rayon Musique
Music store including wxMusik 0.4.2.2 Final (SFS or pet) . 2.8MB was the price
If WX musik failed with your Puppy, Argolance has just provided hs music stores with Jajuk, perhaps better than WXmusik... but needs Java
