aMSN for puppy 4.0 Series msn messenger compatible client

#1 Post by ttuuxxx »

Well I did see that someone else packaged up 3.0 Series so I figured why not build one for 4.0
I compiled the latest TCL&TK With puppy 4.0 and then compiled aMSN with puppy 4. SO its 100% puppy 4.0 Series
Also the website has lots of interesting plugins & skins
http://www.amsn-project.net/plugins.php plugins
http://www.amsn-project.net/skins.php skins
Enjoy ttuuxxx

oh ya
If you want to install plugins just download the plugin and unzip it and place the plugin in the folder in /root/.amsn/plugins/ (hidden folder)
Then restart aMSN and it should find the plugin straight away :)

Amsn has been down for a few days now. I think it's because of the new version release...Anyone made a pet yet?

Please try if this works.
I made it from the autopackage version for Tcl/Tk 8.5.

amsn

I have installed your amsn 097.2 pet but i get the message"loading TkCximage failed", Don't know what this is, but it means my children can't access their msn, which is frustrating.

It worked alright before, but I seem to have encountered the problem with the new download.

Anyone has any ideas ?

Thanks in advance

It seems to want tcl-dev and/or tk-dev, along with gcc to compile it, which I don't seem to have. BTW, I am running Dingo 4 alpha5 (scsi frugal.)

There is a site called meebo that you can login and use msn from the meebo website itself.
I have not used it, but my daughter has.

The problem seems to be TCL/TK missing.
Please unisntall aMSN, install tcl from first post, then reinstall aMSN 0.97.2 from MU pet's.

In the preferences you can change that setting but it still doesn't work with JWM but icewm it does, you can install my latest icewm from
http://puppylinux.ca/tpp/ttuuxxx/progra ... testv2.pet
right click on the url and click "Save Link As"
then install the pet and Menu/Shutdown/Restartx

Thank you for this amsn pet, for it will be much easier for my kids.

The only issue I've got was that ssl thing we must chose to download and install. I guessed for the first one but couldn't connect. Maybe the correct one for puppy 412 is some of the others? I hope some of them will work, oh please...

TLS and connection problems

#15 Post by amenyahu »

I tried to download aMSN in the order set above (i.e., install tcltk first and then amsn). It opened, and then I put in my information. When I tried to connect the first time, it said that it needed TLS or TSL (can't remember which) and gave a list of possible choices of types for different Linux's and BSDs, and Windows. I tried Linux -86 and it downloaded it. Then it went on the screen that appears when it is trying to connect. It never moved from it. I looked at the internet activity icon and it seemed like my computer was trying to send but getting nothing back. I tried numerous times. I even tried to uninstall both amsn and tcltk and then reinstall. This time it never gave the TLS request screen, but it still was unable to connect. I'm wondering if the TLS is still lodged somewhere on my computer.

Anyway, I couldn't get it to work.

I'm using Puppy 4.1 on a Pentium 4 PC with 512MB RAM and 1.7GHz processor.

The old aMSN didn't needed tcl/tk. The 0.97 need it.
Will the next one need it also?

I recognise that error message...it is because the version compiled is 0.97, not 0.97.2, the latest. MSN have changed their protocols between the two versions. I have got amsn 0.97.2 working in puppy, by copying the /usr/share/local/amsn folder from a version from ubuntu. I tried that on puppy 4 but the connection didnt work still. Im going to keep trying, but someone with more skill would be able to sort it sooner.

I hope a version does get developed as aMSN is an extremely popular application for new switchers, especially if there are kids in their household.

Hello all

I have got this working in Puppy-4.00 and put together an all-in-one package.

It is a hybrid of ttuuxxx's tcltk-8.5.2.pet and MU's amsn-0.97.2.pet
plus the tls-1.5.0-linux-x86.tar.gz that it insists on downloading.

I tested it in both Puppy-412-retro & Puppy-412-normal and it appears to work OK,
it logs in and goes directly to my hotmail inbox (when i click on the link) and even displays an image from my webcam.

You can download it from here: amsn_tcltk-0.97.2_8.5.2.pet
