this is the latest for version 4+ I built it for 4.12

http://puppy2.org/slaxer/xmms-1.2.11-i486-slxr.pet

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

for VERSION 3.01 use this one
http://www.puppylinux.ca/tpp/big_bass/xmms-1.2.11BB-version3.01.pet

note: for older versions of puppy linux before version 3.01
I know that MU and Tempestuous made xmms versions also
those are better suited for older versions prior to version 3.01 puppy

Hey buddy
Did you include wma support?

Well great to see you have it going on 4.0

Hi ttuuxxx,

i have uploaded Xmms sfs at puppylinux.ca/members/singh-dingo/sfs files,

which contains all the required libs in a way its fully self reliant to run in

puppy 4. i have PET of that also in case you or any body needs it.

I think many Puppy users would like to know what these extra libraries are, and why they are necessary in Puppy4.

Yes, what audio codecs and filetypes are supported in this XMMS package?
In the iPod age, many people want AAC/m4a support, is this included?
I'm about to archive my CD collection as lossless FLAC files. Is FLAC supported?

What is the default configuration for audio output?

XMMS-1.2.11 has been contributed on at least two earlier occasions. It would be good to distinguish the differences, if any, and the relative merits.

Sub_title: additional libs

tempestuous,

there are about 17 sets of additional libs were required to make xmms run in puppy 4 which were added and PET or SFS were remade. the only problem which i faced was adding of gtk 1.2.10 , when i first added as PET from puppy 3 pkg.s , xmms worked but it effected other applications in puppy 4, so i had to find out libgtk 1.2. ... and libgdk 1.2.... and add these manually in usr lib so these do not disturb other applications.
other than these additions , there is no difference in pkg.

i hope this will answer your querry. i remember this does contain Flack and Gl.so.1

Is the module plugin included or will that be an add-on ? I would like to have it because I listen to a good many .mods .xm and .it .s3m and .sid although i don't remember if Xmms supports .sid

Regarding extra libraries, yes, partly. In general, though, my query relates to full disclosure of what's being provided in the package, and empowerment to the Puppy users who may care to know what's being done to their Puppy Linux installation.
Even after 6 posts in this thread, no one has bothered to mention WHY Puppy4 requires extra libraries to support XMMS. I believe it's rather important information to reveal to new Puppy users the philosophy of Puppy4 and why Barry chose to make it pure GTK2.
This then raises the issue of whether a suitable GTK2 alternative to XMMS is available ... and the answer is yes:
Audacious

BeepMediaPlayer

That answers one third of the queries regarding codecs raised by myself and ttuuxxx.

You need the MikMod input plugin and MikMod library -

Tempestuous,

i have already mentioned it is only repackaging of a sort since you packaged it for puppy 301 it required addition of many other libs to make it work in puppy 4 otherwise package is the same and that is what has been done as i remember now the origanal package was yours.

thanks buddy and regards.

If possible it would be great if someone could provide an alternate download link for the version 4 pet.

The above link is downloading a .tar rather than the .pet

Thanks,

cartz.

PostPosted: Sat 04 Jul 2009, 02:21    Post_subject: Audio Programs Broken

Hi, I just downloaded the xmms .pet file listed here for Puppy 4.0 and then installed and 'refreshed menu.' Then I configured ALSA. Prior to this I had started up gxine and it loaded okay, though I had no music yet to test it. Now neither xmms nor gxine will even load either from command line or links. Any advice is appreciated.

rpkopreski

well a lot of changes happened since version 4.00
I did test and use this on version 4.00

the only reason I made this pet was because

it was stated that it couldn't be done on version 4.00
so I took the challenge

since then I have been using mplayer

what version of puppy are you using now
I can repackage it for your version you are using

UPDATE
I just booted clean puppy pfix=ram
installed the pet

and gxine and xmms are working correctly
I am posting from version 4.12 Slaxer_pup

which should also work correctly on the official puppy 4.12

maybe rerun alsa config
then test with some sound clips

located here open a terminal and paste this
Code:
rox -s /root/puppy-reference/audio/

you can drag N drop those clips into gxine
for a quick test of sound

note: for older versions of puppy
I know that MU and Tempestuous made xmms versions also
those are better suited for older versions

Joe
