Welcome to TigerPup! This is a new pupplet based on tombh's wNOP 0.2. We're in beta with version 1.5, and would love your feedback!

TigerPup is a project integrating wNOP's preconfigured Compiz-Fusion scripts with an easy to use, graphical interface. The idea is point and click, with minimal configuration needed for people without much computer experience. Eventually there will be user docs to answer basic questions for someone who knows nothing about computers.

TigerPup is created with the traveller in mind, and is designed to utillise Puppy's easy portability on most computers. I've included some launcher's for script's to make this easy, intending for TigerPup to be mostly booted from a mini-cd, with a save file on a usb. That said, TigerPup also works beautifully on a frugal install. TigerPup is designed for computer's with at least 256 Mb of ram, and will still run happily on box's unable to support compiz-fusion.

UPDATE: TigerPup Version 1.6 released!
There were issues in 1.5 with PetGet not working, fixed now in 1.6. Also replaced pburn 0.4 with 1.8.0, added another emerald theme, TigerMac, as default, and changed the default PetGet theme on wbar (to keep Lobster happy). Enjoy.

What is the size of the download? Do you have an MD5sum?

Been in touch with Tom, who has given lots of great advice and support. I am brutally plagiarising all his wNOP scripts, as they are brilliant, and will keep doing so for future releases not based directly on wNOP. We had some talk about working together, and it might still happen, but for now it has come down to a time issue for me. There are only so many hours I can steal away from my wife and family in front of this screen...lol. I'm also wanting TigerPup to be very user friendly for total noobs, which is a bit different from Tom's aims, though his work is still very easy to use. I'm looking forward to seeing how Project Ripple develops, the pupplet he's keen to create based TOTALLY on compiz-fusion. See his wNOP forum for more info.

The hidden wbar is a patch to wbar that comes with it's sourcecode in 1.3.3. There were a couple other patches too, but this is the only one I could get to work. Basically it hides the bar whenever not in use, and has to be compiled with the patch; you can't turn it off. Other restrictions are it only works on the bottom of the screen or the right of the screen, and needs the code "-balfa 0" in the launch line. (i.e., launching this wbar in /root/.xinitrc looks something like: wbar -above-desk -balfa 0 -bpress -zoomf 2)

Glad you like it. Lots more features coming in 1.4, will let you know as it gets closer. Would love some good feedback about what to add! Cheers.

Now a dump question if I may. How do I add a patch and compile. I have tried compiling and this worked. But should we add the patch manually or is there an easier way?

Maybe you should release your wbar version with the patch on the wbar thread. Many would be interested.

@Prit1: Will give a go creating a pet package with the patch included. It's not hard, actually, though I couldn't walk you through step by step. I've done it a few times now, but would take some more googleing to get it right again. Basically, you run the "patch" command on the hide.patch file, and after that you compile it normally. I don't remember the exact patch command, but it wasn't hard. Have a go, and I'll see how I get on with the patched wbar pet package.

Feel like an idiot... have just been trying to edit the wiki page to list TigerPup, and can't get the screenshots working! Anyone know what I have to do? Will jpeg's work, is it another format? Uploads them fine, but won't actually load them when I try to view them in my browser. Tried 2 browsers, neither work, though other people's pages do. What am I doing wrong? Appreciate any advice.

Here's wbar in a pet package with the hide patch configured. I haven't tested it yet, and as it's my first pet I've no idea if it will work or not. I'm assuming you know how to configure and launch wbar once installed, all the info is in the README with the source package you would have been working with. Otherwise, I can post it for you. Let me know how you go. Good luck.

Make sure you upload from your HD (do not just put in a URL)
then choose original size from the display options . . .

Congratulations on a great Puplet! I'm posting this from TigerPup.

I've been a wNOP fan for some months now so was keen to try this out.

First impressions are very good and I only have 1 observation which is that the icon bar at the bottom has almost fallen off the screen. See screenshot. When the pointer is over it the icons spring up and grow, but until then they are only just visible.

I have a Radeon ATi card and have to load the fglrx driver before C-F works and before I did that I'm sure the bar was more conventionally positioned.

Is this fixable?

And secondly - how do I re-size images? When I open it in GQview the Edit in The Gimp (or in XV or in Xpaint) command doesn't actually do anything. What's going on?

I know that lots of people will shout at me for the huge image, so I'll need to be able to fix it soon!

@nic2109: I thought the iconbar was partially hidden and this was an additional effect of Wbar. Its the same on my laptop.

I had the same problem with Gimp not opening for editing. But when I clicked on Gimp from the menu (right click on desktop for menu), and then dragged the pic to Gimp, it worked.

Glad you like it, and thanks for the feedback. Re wbar, the bar is purposefully hidden, that's the hide patch in action. You would have to remove it, then either recompile normally (hide patch is not included by default), or install one of the pet packages from the wbar forum. Not sure what is there, though you won't need imlib2 as this is included with TigerPup. To remove wbar, run these commands:
You can then reinstall another wbar, and if you haven't touched /root/.xinitrc it will autostart when you restart X. To restore your config file, run:

mv -f /root/my-applications/dot.wbar /usr/share/wbar/dot.wbar
rm -f /root/.wbar

You'll then have to edit your preferences for wbar in /root/.xinitrc
You can type "wbar -help" in console for all the options.

Re gimp, I'm not sure about that, though likelyhood if it's not starting is that I made a mistake with the launcher in wbar. For wbar's config file, run "mousepad /usr/share/wbar/dot.wbar"

Scroll down the page until you come to gimp, and note the command (next to "c:"). Does it work if you run this in the console on it's own? Probably not...lol. If Gimp works from the menu (right clicking on desktop), in console type "thunar /usr/share/applications"
and search for the gimp icon. Right click on this, open with mousepad, and find the command that launches it. This is what you need to put in the wbar config file. I'll fix this in future releases.

Does this answer your question? Otherwise, once you open gimp, click on "Image", then "Scale Image" to make it smaller, or change the ppi. Happy Tigering!

Just re-read your post, now I get it, thanks for pointing that out. Didn't know GQView had that feature...lol. You can either follow Prit1's advice, which is how I usually open files in gimp anyway, or go to preferences in GQView, then editors, and under gimp replace the opening command (the whole thing) with the command to open gimp. Find this from /usr/share/applications as mentioned in the last post. Cheers.

Thanks, I realised after reading the thread better that the partially hidden bar is a feature! Thanks also for the "howto" for fixing the application link.

I've found out another "funny" you may like to have a look at.

Watching a streaming video is fine until you move anything - mouse or window in Opera, or if the page has a moving image of any sort. The sound stays good but the video flickers alarmingly.

Suggestion: I would like to see a Quit launcher in the wbar.

Hmmm. Thanks for that. I'll give it a go tomorrow. Could possibly be your system, what are your specs? Most likely it has to do with Compiz-Fusion. There is a patched Mplayer version available, which likely fixes this problem. Might include it on my site under 'extras', but I prefer xine at this point in time. Re the quit launcher, there is the skull and cross bones icon on the top panel bar, "xkill", listed as "kiss of death". This will kill any misbehaving window. Have you tried this yet? Must get around to writing those docs...lol.
