Very slow connection - that seems to have stopped

If you have a fast connention try the Ajax (that is online) powered office suite here

OpenOffice2
As Lobster said, download of dotpup was too slow...was able to download tarball from OpenOfiice.org in a couple of minutes so was wondering if there was an easy set of steps to install from that?
Could you just unrpm the RPM files and have a working app?
Also, couple of questions about unrpm:
Is there a way to use wildcards with unrpm to do multiple files ( e.g. unrpm *.rpm )
Can you indicate the source and destination with unrpm ( e.g. unrpm /mnt/home/*.rpm /usr/ )
What about Midnight Commander...is that extract same as unrpm?
Thanks in advance!

Well, I don't know about all that rpm crap I use midnight commander to
extract all files that it can. Still wanna learn how to extract those darn
slax files or .mo
As for my connection.
I recommend downloading overnight using wget
Sorry about it. But I don't know how to make it go faster ?
I tried using Betaftp but it is a bugger.
But just download it overnight !!!

Just downloaded applix
"ERROR unzipping: ApplixOffice.pup" - got this message
twice - which would mean faulty download
it also seemed to installonce and created the directories and menu item . . .
however . . .
even after reboot failed to run
Anyone else more succesful - where is that screen shot?
Will try again later - glad you have made a OO dotpup - hope it works - what about bittorrents for OO2 will that be faster?
Anyway a lot of effort clearly gone into this

don't know ?
It works for me. Go to the menu, MU & his dotpup maker create a new
menu named DotPups. It's in there called applix.
As for a screenshot, here. You will notice I circled a message that pops-up.
Do not mess with it do not press the button, leave it be and go about your business. Act like it ain't there.

Oh boy Paul
I aint no xpert on Bittorrents BUT I think I got one a going with Azareus
You will need to
1. Install java
2. install Azareus
3. Click on the link Kenny has provided
Maybe someone can go through this in detail with you?
Bit torrent allows more reliability and shared (spread out server access - so speeding up slow connection)
It aint perfect but that Applix looks kinda fun and that OO2 has a database AND You KNOW you want it . . . (well I do)
Hey did you know Puppy Promotion week starts tommorrow - fancy being a host?
got this message after downloading again with Azareus:
"ERROR unzipping: ApplixOffice.pup"
- will leave it awhile to see if anyone can confirm the file is OK

Well I am getting closer
the error message is because applix needs a load of ram to unzip
1. up your availble Puppy001 size
utilities / resize root filesystem - I would suggest by another 256meg
2. make sure you have deleted and uninstalled any previous applix
3. Go throught the WHOLE of the dotpup installation
At one point it says reboot to see applix on the menu - you DO not boot up at this point
The process can take several minutes and there are no on screen reminders or progress bars - maybe G2 will look into that . . .
4. Finally it will tell you that applix is installed
Now it should run . . . but mine did not . . .
nor did open office 2
not sure why . . .
I am using a new chubby puppy 1.0.5 with JWM - (the red CPU barchart bottom right will show you that unzipping is going on incidentally)
OK I think much of this info will apply to 002 aswell
Defeated? Not yet but any ideas welcome

OO2
I know I'm in over my head, but trying to learn...
given the size of OO2, does the dotpup need to resize the pup001 file? I was playing around with manually installing OO2, and when I tried to copy to /opt I get an out of space message.
Would assume that resizing pup001 is preferred method, but could you keep OO2 on home directory (/mnt/home/opt) and link like usr_devx? How would that be done?
Thanks!

OO2
OK...really going to demonstrate my ignorance here...when I increased the pup001 file (by 512K) I still get an out of disk space when moving OO2 files to /opt...so I'm guessing that /opt is not mounted as part of pup001? So to educate me, how can you tell what directories (or part of directories) come from pup001 vs usr_cram.fs or usr_devx.fs?
Would it be just as good to create a opt_cram.fs with OO2 files, or do they need to be writeable? Thanks!

It could just be me... but I think OO2 opens and saves faster on Puppy than it does on my newer Dell with XP. As far as comparing OO to MS Office, I think the functionality is better with OO - it opens files from various proprietary applications including wordperfect and MS Office and it prints to PDF files. If the newest version of MS Office does that, and I don't know that it will, it will only be catching up to OO.
