Mapivi: Perl/Tk-based picture viewer |

Mapivi is a photo management tool with focus on JPEG pictures. Mapivi supports adding, editing and searching of IPTC/IIM, EXIF data and JPEG comments. The pictures are managed in place (in your folder structure), so you are able to use other tools like file managers or other viewers together with Mapivi.
Mapivi is a stand alone tool, in the sense that there is no need for a web server, online access or a database. |
I've packaged this as an experimental .pet(2.7Mbytes), for anyone that wants to try it, and uploaded here. The actual mapivi executable is a self-contained file with it's own perl/tk environment, so it should work with any puppy version. To reduce the size, from 4M+ to 2.7M, I've made it as a makeself package. I've also included two ancillary files, jhead & xwd.
To run, Menu->Graphics->Mapivi

Dingo,
let us know how it goes. A couple of things I noticed, after I uploaded, were that the screenshot function isn't working. This uses the included xwd file. I can get this to take a screenshot by itself, on the commandline, but this is being lost somewhere when mapivi interfaces with it.
Also some of the functionality , like the convert & mogrify functions, depends on installing imagemagick. But I'm not sure this is working properly either, as I was having probs getting imagemagick convert to work by itself, let alone via mapivi interface.
Maybe a work in progress...?

When you start Mapivi you need to be patient, as it takes about 6 secs to start up. Also, when you close the app down, if it gives a warning message, about a missing ./trash folder, to avoid this you just need to create the folder /root/.maprog/mapivi/trash, i.e.
| Code: | | mkdir /root/.maprogs/mapivi/trash |
Lastly, the problem with the screenshot function not working. This is dependent on having ImageMagick installed, as Mapivi is using the ImageMagick convert utility. However, for some reason, with the ImageMagick version I had installed, convert wouldn't convert!:
| Code: | convert -sample 25%x25% sky1.jpg output3.jpg
convert: no decode delegate for this image format `sky1.jpg'.
convert: missing an image filename `output3.jpg'. |
But with this version(2Mbytes) here, the screenshot function does work.
