Puppy 4.60 -puppy 4..31 woof with SCSI and full drivers 113M
ok here's another attempt to build a woof that will be stable, so I can focus on OLPC, anyways this version is just a regular puppy 4.31 woof that needs testing.
I have a few Ideas for this version, I might compile the same gcc, glib, gtk, pango etc as either the latest Ubuntu, Debian, Slackware without any extra gnome libs, the actual pup-460 is 79MB due to the extra drivers are in a separate 30MB zp460305.sfs. Also I'll release a retro version as this progress. Anyways have fun testing it.

Great disappointment.
Install was ok (pfix=ram) but after having spent time to configure to my liking, got the dreaded 'Session not saved' message again at shutdown.
So no window to create a save file.
Why is this happening in those 4.xx versions, as this isn't the only one with this issue.
Hope someone will find a solution to this issue.

Too many versions/variants/puplets; finite community; diffusion; too little testing.Béèm wrote:Why is this happening in those 4.xx versions, as this isn't the only one with this issue.
And perhaps this?

naaa 450-Karmic was a dud from the getgo, missing parts, broken compiler, the missing parts makes seamonkey crash all the time etc. 460 is much more stabler of a starting point.alienjeff wrote:Too many versions/variants/puplets; finite community; diffusion; too little testing.Béèm wrote:Why is this happening in those 4.xx versions, as this isn't the only one with this issue.

Desktop MD8818
And as I feared, on the desktop MD8818 no joy either.
I can't select the keyboard. The keyboard doesn't seem to respond at this stage as not the cursor nor the entry key has any effect.
I am believing now that ttuuxxx implementations hate my laptop and desktop.

This will be the base, since the compiler works and the iso small size.

Re: Desktop MD8818
Sorry to interrupt ttuuxxx, I was wondering if you could jump over to OpenBox + FBPanel sometime when you get a chance and f/u or redirect the thread. It has kind of dwindled to just me trying to help pri and since I need almost just as much help myself , so not going anywhere. Really appreciate it, thanks.ttuuxxx wrote: ttuuxxx

Is that due to selecting Xorg..not Xvesa...
or the reverse.
Or anything to do with this?

kernel source/config?
ttuuxxx
it would appear the 460 is using the original puppy 431 kernel sources but with a different config file. Could you please confirm that sources are the "kernel_src-2.6.30.5-patched.sfs4.sfs" and provide the config file, so we can play with this too

Chris.
Just had several days of discussion and testing about this in the dpup482d4 thread.

What do you want in uPup?
This seems like a good place to ask--are there any people who want something similar to what i want in a uPup?
I want a uPup, first of all, because it has Glibc_2.9+ and other current software and will run the Iron browser as well as being compatible with almost all current software--everyone tests on Ubuntu!.
I would like a uPup that uses my graphics card well, not just vesa--using vesa on a large crt makes me want to throw up. This means I want all the xorg_servers/drivers plus glx and dri. It also means I want a solid compiling environment so I can make my own prorpietary drivers and other things. (i have done this and compiled the ati driver 9.10 on uPup with SitHeelSpeak's compiler).
It is also easy to add software from the ubuntu package repositories.
I don't care much about size since it is my Desktop operating system. I do like to be able to copy the whole enchilada into memory--I did that with MU's 500 MB New Year's puplet..
Hmm, that's all I can think of right now. I have made some progress about adding the graphics drivers and extensions back into uPup built with Woof. I have been using my own builds from Woof, and they are stable just fine. That may be the greatest thing of all about Woof--a personal build for everyone. But if there are others who would like to talk about what they want in uPup and how to get it, i am all ears. Or maybe it would just be a good thing to share our personal solutions and keep building private uPups. I posted a couple of anomalies in Woof under Bugs-> Woof 2009-1120.
A big thing really big, is Flash Player. Using Version 9 is not a long term solution, and in fact, Version 9 has some problems of its own going full screen on hulu.
Another big issue is X not starting. I think some of that is due to xorgwizard defaulting to the fbdev video driver rather than to vesa. I don't know why though or how to fix it.
<Add> I am thinking of making a uPup with all of xorg 7.4, with devx installed with SHS's glibc 4.4.1 and compile features, plus tidying up little things as I can. Would anyone be interested in such a thing? It would be about 300MB I am guessing.
Good news about Flash. Flash 10 is working in the prelim build of uPup with xorg full, devx and SHSD gcc 4.4.1. It even plays full screen videos in hulu.com. I should say this is with Namoroka/Firefox 3.6b5pre.
