Hello:

I upgraded my tmxxine edition of puppy with Fire Hydrant office version, becuase I rememberred that with tmxxine the network wizard atheros wireless driver worked with my Dlink Airplus G pci card. ( I am using an old 700Mhx AMD box with 356mb. So I installed it first and then upgraded to main office hydrant because I liked the look and applications of hydrant and because hydrant seems faster for some reason.

Well , I could connect to the internet before the upgrade but not after, with the same setup.

Any ideas on this? And of course thanks to people such as yourself, Lobster and John Murga for all of your projects and tweaking of puppy making it my favorite flavor of linux.

I solved my problem by upgrading again this time tmxxine over fire hydrant office. I back up the root directory as instructed in the forum so that I could keep my old desktop look of fire hydrant office, but to my surprise when I rebooted the old fire hydrant desktop was still there even though the upgrade was processed. Perhaps this is because Hydrant is listed as JWM and TMXXine is icewm. So perhaps I get the best of both pupplets in combination. Also, I made a longer antenna for my wireless PCI card, courtesy of some hangers that I had lying around and walah! I am connected and writing you from my hybrid of TMXXINE and Fire Hydrant MAIN OFFICE.

How did you make that longer antenna?

Well this is very unorthodox and probably shouldn't have worked, but here goes.

The pc box is in the garage and the wireless router is in the middl of the house, so the signal is weak. My pci dlink airplus g card has a 3-4" plastic antenna that sticks out of the back of the box.

I wrapped a straightened wire hanger around the end of that little antenna and then hooked another straightened wire hanger to that and extended it up and hooked it on a ceiling beam. Next for good measure and better hoped for reception I took a regular un-straightened wire hanger and hung it from where I had hooked the first two hangers together.

That gave me the extra signal strength ( or perhaps reception strength) I was looking for.

I'm sure that regular folks who have their set up in the house will probably not want to see such an unsightly mess in their home.
