Mark,
Thanks for your reply, that's the technique that I use also, but it doesn't work with this distribution. I've also tried changing the icons in the desktop Rox window using set icon. However, although they will change in the Rox window, the actual desktop still goes to a default icon. Do you know where those default icons are located?

wow,
I'd really like to join in and congratulate you on this feat. It's difficult to explain to the 'non-compiling' world what a huge peice of work you have a acheived here. Thanks....
And that brings me onto my next topic!
gthumb and dia.
As you know these gnome / gtk apps seem to have chosen to integrate much more with the gnome libraries.
I am a big fan of both f-spot and gthumb, but it seems lots of people have tried and given up compiling them on puppy becuase of all their dependencies.
So, i refused to beleive it and have been giving it a go all this week.
I gave up on f-spot as it needed gtksharp, which i couldn't be bothered with for now. so i concentrated on gthumb.
The key to getting gthumb working was the fact that you had compiled all the libraries that i needed.
I've managed to get it gthumb running, but it's riddled with errors and i'm sure that i'm still missing some dependencies.
and this is were you come in. With your unique undertsanding of gnome, I really need some help putting together a pack of the base gnome libraries so that i can easiliy compile gthumb.
I've noticed that you created these pets for puppy 3:

That allow gdesklets to work. (although i notice MU managed to remove libgnome)
It seems like gdesklets need very similar libraries to gthumb:

And of course the host of dependencies:

libgtop
libbonobo
libbonoboui
libgnome
gnome
ORBit2
GConf
gnome-keyring
Is there any chance you could create a gnome_libs pack for puppy 4 for these libraries. It's so difficult to put something like this together unless you have compiled it initally.

@nutts4life: Sorry, I can help you for now because I don't have too much free time. I have to work around 12 to 14 hours every day (also on sundays) since the last 2 months

Try to create a new launcher manually again.

No probs, i understand. That sounds like you have some serious work to do.
D you have any info written down about the dependenices of these libraries. I wil see if i can put this package together myself using your libraries.

here is Slickness.
I removed the backgroundpictures, and had to comment these lines in gtkrc (line 91):

In Gnomeslack 2.22 it works like this.
I did not check it in Metacity, as Opera crashes, when I switch the windowmanger.
I use it with Icewms Thinblack theme.

Ok,
I'm close, I used the list of pets wow had for his gdesklets dependencies (i realise that these weren't needed in the end). But i used them as an example to compile the gnome libs i needed for gthumb.
gthumb was compiled succesfully with all the libs and files and gthumb starts OK!!!!!
But, i'm getting this error come up:
** (gthumb:10739): WARNING **: GConf error:
Adding client to server's list failed, CORBA error: IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0
It seems to be quite a common one and seems to point to the fact that the .gconf needs refreshing by either removing or creating a new user. I guess this seems to say that it depends on your gnome setup on startup, which i don't have as i'm starting XFCE.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

I think you can ignore this.
1.) warnings usually are no serious problem.
2.) CORBA is an interface for client/server interprocess communication.
I think some gnome apps use it, to comunicate with each other.
As you run gthumbs as standalone application outside the Gnome desktop, this is not required here.

Danke shoen (spelt wrong I think? LOL) for the theme files and for telling me the names of the various themes, etc. I did copy them from here, these that you posted, to my "BackUps" directory (which gets saved to DVD every few months so I won't lose anything
), however, for the heck of it I went looking through my Mandi/Mint theme directories and guess what? That's write! Somehow I managed to get a copy of the "Slickness-Black" theme into each. LOL! Interesting though: The one you pointed me to at Gnome-Look.org is at version 0.9 and these are at v2.2.1 and come complete with all types of image files as well as .gtkrc, metacity, Thunderbird/Firefox fixes, etc. How odd?
Anyway, next time I'm in my Dingo I'll have to slide that over and give that theme a try as it's really sharp-looking! I like the way those titlebar buttons look along with those scrollbars.

Thank you for taking the time to explain how to properly set up desktop icons. Sorry, I'm so late getting back to you, about this. I used your technique and it worked perfectly. My next problem to tackle is how to change items on the drop down menus.
Your distribution is still my favorite, although it is still a test distribution. I'm using it as my default Puppy desktop. In fact, I've been using it to correct some problems that I've had in my installation of Ubuntu 8.0.4 which has replaced Windows XP as my primary desktop.
I have been able to get a number of programs to work properly in your test distribution ie. OOo 3.0 beta, Qcad, Bible-Desktop, aMSN and others. I really like it.
Thanks again for your hard work. I'm looking forward to your future distributions. If it wasn't for the security problem associated with always working as the root user, I might discard Ubuntu in favor of your gnome implementation.

Better integration of Rox-Filer:
This applies to the SlicknesS themes, but certainly also others.
Edit:

In the end, add:

I modified the black theme with the sliders from the non-black.
Here is a pet with both, they include the modification for Rox (300 kb):

Is there a newer version of a gnome 2.20.3 sfs?
I just read that MU is working in a 2.22 one, but 700MB and in the context of Muppy.
Could this 2.22 one be used as a replacement of the 2.10.3?

2.22 will be only for Muppy, until people could sort out, what else must be added so that it works in Dingo.
This is not trivial.
But frankly spoken - I was a bit disappointed.
From 700 MB you expect "so much".
But there are few applications and all the locale, that require so much space.
Especially the developer related stuff like Mono.
For a "normal user", wows version already includes the most interesting programs, what is really remarkable for this small size.

I tried a gnome version, can't remember the version' until I saw wow's one.
I liked it and got used to the configuration facility and nautilus.
But then I got a performance issue with OOo. OOo really crawled with whatever appicaltion (writer, calc) I used.
I had to stop using Gnome and had to use JWM.
Also I have an issue with hal for mounting and unmounting.
I had no desktop icons for the resources and used still rox to mount and unmount them.
So I hoped a newer version could solve these issues.
Well I'll wait and see.

@Béèm: Make sure that you have added the haldaemon group/user, then run this command to delete all the .wh.* files from the pup_save file:

Now reboot the computer, exit X and run these commands to manually start:
dbus service:
Start HAL service:
Start the udev service:
And finally type 'xwin gnome-session' to launch the GNOME desktop environment.
