Just a quick note to let you know you've combined two of my favorite things: Enlightenment and Puppy and I'm "adopting" your pup right now. I hope he gets along OK with the other animal on my hard drive (It's a Heron:D). Looks really good. I'll let you know what I think after it's all set up.

On my other linux clips I used recoredmydesktop and I know people who use xvidcap but I cant find pup versions anywhere so sorry its not as good as the others .

Great Job on this one, I look froward to the updated 4.00 version !!

:D Hello :D
@ runtt21,
Thank you, :D Im glad you like it! Im hoping it will be more stable under Dingo. So far it looks good.
The Problems relate to Flash and Enlightenment and kill the Browsers dead! Firefox 3 lacks too many libs to run, and Opera 9.50 runs sluggish and renders the window menus in text! However, Icecat seems to run well in E-17, and Flash doesnt kill it (so far LOL) If you are running the 217 / E-17 Buddapup
I would give it a try if Flash gives you trouble too. It may just be my setup, IDK.
Browsers and E-17 are the big the big reason Im looking at Dingo. 2.17 worked OK but a newer
Puppy base will help a lot, I hope. Looks wise, I`m not changing much, I like the setup the way it is. E-17
is more limited style wise than E-16, and once you get a setup you like, well, you know. :D Im hunting down Libs to get a working 217 / E-17 version of Firefox 3 and will test it with Buddapup, but for the
4.00 version the Browser is still up in the air.
@ I tried to compile Recordmydesktop for Buddapup 217, and it seemed to work, but the output files
were corrupt, and about 5mb per second.LOL. All the libs are there and it seems to work fine, so.......
am looking at xvidcap....

PS one of the features of Enlightenment I love is the ability to drag windows between pagers. I find it very useful.

Buddapup Dingo Alpha

#21 Post by puppyluvr »

:D Hello :D

Well, the deed is done, and Buddapup 217 is no more. :(
Say hello to Buddapup Dingo :D

Buddapup Dingo is Puppy 4.00 Dingo with the Enlightenment E-17 Window manager.
The only major changes from the official release are the addition of Opera 9.50, Icecat,
Xvidcap and Gizmo 3.1. ( And Enlightenment ) Size is 176 mb..

@ Known issues:
Only one. The default background for the main desktop (Dingo) is actually a screenshot of Buddapup Dingo.. What this means is if you make ANY changes to
the IBar or IDock, the background image will still have the old icons ,,ect,, So you will want to change the background before making any changes!!
@ Also, to maximize a window over the IBar/IDock restore it, raise it over the Dock, then maximize it again.
@ On first Boot, you will have a default Dingo desktop.
Just hit ctrl / alt / bkspce to drop out of X then type xwin enlightenment_start :D

Feedback (as always) is appreciated...

By writing this comment I hope to invoke the Sudden Awareness of the Obvious that typically occurs immediately after pressing Submit...

I definitely like Enlightenment, and Puppy. The combo seems like a great idea to me.

So I tried Buddapup-Dingo from http://www.puppylinux.ca/members/BuddaPup/ on my Asus eee, but what I get is JWM.
No e17 in sight.

Am I missing something? Do I need to switch window managers? Did I download from the wrong place?

Thanks!
David

( now I'll just sit back and wait for the obvious to smack me like a sack of onions... um, but just in case I don't post a "Doh!" follow-up in the next few minutes, I could probably use some help )

I think in your excitement, as you say - you missed the obvious .. as per puppyluvr's post :

@ On first Boot, you will have a default Dingo desktop.
Just hit ctrl / alt / bkspce to drop out of X then type xwin enlightenment_start

Hope this provides enlightenment :-)

Cheers, Adam.

Doh!

Yep, there it is, in plain sight.
Thanks Adam.

And thank you puppyluvr! This is pretty darn nice.
All works well.

I've got some of the usual eee issues, but that's really a separate topic.
(wireless isn't up, and there's no recognition of taps on the touchpad, both items I think I've seen covered elsewhere in the forums.)

It Looks GREAT!!!And mostly ran great too,I only had two problems ,I selected a animated background and when it started my system bogged down big time ,I have a dual core 3 ghz processor with 1.5 g of ram.
The other thing was when I tried to reboot nothing happened for over a min.I ctrl-alt-backspace to get to the command line and rebooted from there.

Before I started enlightenment xvidcap was listed in the menu , After I started the listing was gone and I had used the terminal to get it started , Of course when I closed the terminal xvid closed too...

:D Hello :D

@ Yes, some of the included backgrounds are alphas
at best, but show off Enlightenments ability`s nicely, so I left them in. There are 4 more static backgrounds
in /usr/local/share/enlightenment/data/backgrounds
Don`t ask me how they got there.. :D Messing around with the backgrounds is how I ended up with a screen
shot as my default background.

@ Xvidcap is in /usr/share/applications. It was a last minute thing due to your post, and I missed merging it into the menu, however it will launch fine from there..

Thanks, and keep letting me know how it goes....

The flame can be disabled via Enlightenment configuration > modules.
I updated Opera to 9.51 with Wolfpup's package and it works great.

Stalling at Shutdown???

#35 Post by AnewJeff »

First, I absolutely love Budda-dingo!!!

Unfortunately, I'm having a problem when trying to shutdown the system from Enlightenment and have run into the same problem on a few different computers.

Anyone else had similar issues? Any solutions?

Thanks in advance and GREAT WORK Puppyluvr!!!
