How to make a copy of a live (bootable) CD?

#1 Post by jwriter »

I copied the files from a CD that boots properly and burned them onto a new CD but it does not boot.

Files are... initrd.gz, ldlinux.sys, pup_300.sfs, syslinux.cfg, vmlinuz, zdrv_300.sfs.

Hello

I believe if I understand correcly, you simply copied them as FILES to the new cd. This would not be bootable like that ( I have made the same error as well). What I did was use a burner like K3b and using, from the tools dialog, copy the cd as an IMAGE to the new cd. That should give you what you want.

Hope this helps

Thanks Bob - that's exactly right. I only have the files at this point, not the original CD. I guess the new CD needs additional information burned onto it to make it bootable. I was hoping I could do this on my Mac. Maybe there is a program similar to K3b - will try the Mac forums.

By the way "exiting" should be "existing". Oh well :)

ANY CD burner should be able to burn a bootable image. If you have it, the MAC version of Nero will do it.
