standing tall, poisonous crap and poisonous crap in Puppy's Home web page |
|
Don't shoot me. I'm just the messenger.
There are hundreds and hundreds of standing tall, poisonous crap, Livitra references in the source code at Puppy Linux Org
After arriving, click View -> Page source.
Below is a screen shot with CSS turned off.

PS the forum is compromised also I think, because the title I wrote was not the title displayed.
Maybe I shouldn't have made the hyper-link because I have no earthly idea how the title became what it was.

I read about this |

I remember reading in a thread that that phrase automatically replaces the word "d--gs". It was set up to deter spammers, I think.

I went back, back and back to my original post and took a picture of the window. You can see exactly what the title submitted was.

Yes, all of those brands of "poison" are beloved of spammers. (Did you know there's an existing thread in "Misc" about the attacks on Barry's site?)

I think you're right our phpbb probably has a filter for the words I used and replaced them with the 'poisonous crap'. As you can see all the commas and other words remained the same.
So, probably nothing wrong with our forum.

I suppose I should stop trying to make a business of selling poisonous crap on the Puppy forum.
On the serious side, having looked at the code carefully, I don't see a security issue. CSS attributes hide all the links and text and it seems the purpose is to generate more business for the malicious site referenced by way of fooling searching engines, which is not a good idea for legitimate purposes as it can cause a loss in Puppy's rating.
Mostly, I hope someone takes time to clean up the bad code which was prepended to the html file(s), which I'm sure someone will do.

Thanks for letting us know.
When Puppian set up the CMS he made a big effort to get the site up on the google ranking scales. I am not sure how that was done but it means that when people search for Puppy, we are quite near the top.
Now the purveyors of via*** (aka piosonous crap) are of the opinion that those looking for puppy info actually are in need of enhancement to their prowess. This maybe true (in another universe). We are therefore a target for this prime cyberspace . . .
Maybe it is also time for Tinfoil Pup?

not surprising |

That's not surprising anymore. Barry has already written about how ineffective servage is when it comes to deterring spam. Lately, I noticed that the puppylinux.org server is running an unnumbered Apache version and mod_php4. It's really time to pack up and go - as soon as we have a basic new site up. See the discussion on "web presence".

This problem would not exist if the world's richest nation redistributed its tax income into looking after its citizens. All those products are available on the NHS over here for folks who need them - and if they are over 60, one of the target groups, prescriptions are 'free'.
Re-reading the referenced thread

it was remiss of me not to congratulate 'sunburnt' for his enlightenment. Now, his task is to unlock the brainwashed fear of his fellow citizens about communism, advocated by the ancients. All for one and one for all. Liberte`, Egalite`, Fraternite` and those other noble aspirations...
Notwithstanding, the alleged pharmaceuticals are frequently fakes peddled by the Mob from their lairs in Florida and you'd be lucky even to get a bag of chalk if you send them dosh. Our country cousins would be well advised to place their faith in their criminal investigation bureaux and report these creeps. Mind you, there's still the problem of levering the Shrub dynasty out of the Sunshine State.....

Wrong.
It's time to CLEAN UP THE MESS and PATCH THE HOLES that presently exists on PuppyLinux.org. NOW!
For the webmasters of PuppyLinux.org to nonchalantly leave 441 links embedded in the website's main page is NEGLIGENT at best. At worst, it's AIDING AND ABETTING said purveyors of pharmaceuticals of dubious repute, and quite possibly CRIMINAL.
Wake up, FFS!

It's amazing how you are able to get those spamcode hours after it has been cleaned - maybe a cache from your ISP?
You assume the worst among your peers, AlienJeff, an attitude that would not help the community.

@alienjeff
I'm sure that what you posted was a good idea
but the filter has turned it into a script for a good comedy sketch
Are you sure you didn't mix your posts & send a fix to the comedy club? LOL

PS I read somewhere that there's a way using spam assassin to send the posts back to their source with a 'nobody home' sort of response, so that the bot removes us from its list, but its not my field
Do we have spam assassin on the server, anyone know?
