Quick update; I copied both the Gkdial binary and its /usr/share library from Lighthouse to a directory on my hard drive, and then into my BuddaPup when I'd booted it up. It worked and I now have dialup working in Budda, from which I'm posting.

Thanks for a fine effort.

I am, thanks :) Just one thing though; I haven't found Firefox 2.0.0.11 to be very stable and this has been confirmed on other sites I've browsed, so I think it's a good idea to let it update to the latest version, 2.0.0.17 at present.

Thanks, but at 50 MB it will probably have to wait until I get to a machine which has broadband beause I'm limited to dialup here. Do I need to uninstall the old Firefox first?

I've downloaded firefox.pet now and tried to install it but it won't work. This is the error message I get;

"The firefox.pet package has been downloaded to /root/.packages,
however there is not enough room to uncompress and install it.
The free space is 244081 blocks but it is estimated you will
need 513640 blocks temporarily for the expansion and install.

Note: If you are using a pup_save.3fs personal storage file,
it can be made bigger -- see Utilities menu.

This script will now delete the package and exit..."

In other words, it requires more than double the free space I now have which I've ramped up to 953 MB (from a 1 GB file originally). So, a 50 MB file requires over 2 GB free space in the swap file in order to install itself. Sorry but there's something wrong here.

:D Hello,
If you open the "Resize Personal Storage File" dialog, how much free space does it say you have..
There is a fix, if it says you have enough room, but still wont install, but you have to be sure first.
Also, you mentioned swap, which has no bearing here..
Only the remaining space in your pupsave...

Hi, thanks for replying. I should have said "save file" not "swap file", sorry.

This one says 609 MB, the old one 953 MB. Both should be plenty.

:D Hello,
Here`s an extra bonus for Buddapup 215 users. :D
Its my little friends, the XPenguins!! :D

With Fish!!!
Image
:D
:D :D
Cute little buggers, arent they!!
Buddapup 215 /...Install the Pet. It will create a menu "XPenguins Desktop Toy"item in "Fun"
Click the menu item..
Or:.... Open a Terminal (RXVT).Type:
xpenguins --theme"Big_Penguins"
for bigger penguins..(there are other themes in /usr/local/share/xpenguins..call them by name..)
Nothing happens... LOL ....LEAVE THE TERMINAL OPEN / MINIMIZED.
Left click the desktop...Chose ..Puppy / Desktop / Show Hide Desktop Icons...
( Or , Turn on the XFishtank Desktop ) ...Viola,...Penguins....
Xpenguins writes to the Enlightenment desktop ( Desktop 0 ) , hence the need to turn off the icons....(Or turn on the fishtank)...
Enjoy!!! :D

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try the next time I'm in Puppy. It'll be nice to have Java and Flash working in Puppy.

Best,

CP .

Quick update; the tip worked and I'm posting from it (Firefox) now! Only thing is that I had to change a '5' on the first line instead of a '3' (to '0').

Thanks once again,

CP .

CD Record

#44 Post by Colonel Panic »

Just one more update; can I say how grateful I was today that you've included CD Record in BuddaPup 2.17. With it I was able to make a couple of live Linux disks quickly and easily (and check them too) instead of trying to puzzle out the instructions in one of the other burning programs.

Thanks once again,

Best,

Colonel Panic .

(Edit, the utility used was actually called Burniso2CD, but it mentions CD Record when it runs so it's presumably based on it).
