@Ttuuxxx: Thanks for that tip. Just one more question. How can I make wbar appear automatically? I tried the adding it to the startup script and would not work. We have to click on the desktop atleast once for wbar to appear.

I use to run yellowdog linux on my older mac machines, I noticed they use DR17 as their window manager on their current version.
http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/produ ... ntro.shtml do you super studs think this WM would be a nice add-on or option to the MacPup? I'm going to install yellowdog on my older G4 machine partition to see how it looks since I'm have problems with getting it to run on puppy due to dependencies and linux skill level =). Thanks http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 98&t=22934

@earlytv: The only things left to do from my part for now is to fix the autostart of the wbar and to move to the latest version of ttuuxxx's light icewm. This fixes the blinky, icons etc. I will send you the link when I have this done. Do you think there is anything else that will be needed in the Macpup for now?

Till now, there were only about 88 downloads from 1 download link in the last 8 days. I think the lack of any really great features in this version is the reason for the low interest shown.

In about 1 week I will get to sit at my brothers real MAC to see what its like.

Not on a aproved list but I found SeaMonkey adons. The HOME button and a delete personal data button are ok. Has anyone delt with these? I have them on my 2.17 now. It depends what version SeaMonkey you use if you can install these.

prit1,

Thanks again for your puppy derivative.

Can I sugest an addon ?

Well, since I want to easy add some software to your macpuppy, I ask to Mu, puppian guru and SFS-Combiner tool author if it is possible to make work the SFS-Combiner on puppy 2.17.1

(See this link, http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 7&start=15 )

Till now , no answer.
So maybe, If you like the idea or concept, you can re-enforce the mentioned solicitude to MU.

What do you think about ?.

pdrito.

Hey Prit1

I had problems to get the memory applet to auto-start in earlier versions of lite icewm.
the problem was in the startup file. My latest release has had that fixed. It took days grrrrrrrr
So a good place to look for your bar to auto start would be there. In past versions I bet that was your problem also :)
Also I found mplay itunes skin heres a pic
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/images/skins/iTunes-01.jpg
and the skin link is
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/skins/i ... .1.tar.bz2
but of course you'll need mplayer as the default media player :)

@pdrito: Thanks for the suggestion. Let me see what I can do.

@Ttuuxxx: I will definitely add the latest lite icewm and try using startup for the wbar and see if that works.

Add it to .xinitrc in /root just before the exec $CURRENTWM section. I have it there and it starts first time, every time. Here is my code line:

Code: Select all

# Start wbar application launcher
sleep 3 && wbar -above-desk -pos top -balfa 0 -zoomf 1.8 &
Hope that helps

Macpup remove topbar

#56 Post by Django »

Hi prit1,

I like your Macpup verry much.
I was wondering if there is a simple way to disable the topbar.
Making it look more simple would be even better for my taste.
Wy bother with a topbar if you have a mouse menu.

@Django: The top bar is where the windows get minimized to and you can restore them from there. If you disable this, you will need to change the Rox options so that the windows get minimized to the desktop. I personally did not like the look and feel when the windows get minimized to the desktop.

On my machine, the version I use frequently has a taskbar at the bottom that is set to auto hide (to make it look clean) and the wbar goes on top. And I have set the windows so that they never overlap the wbar. This gives a very clean look and is more productive. But this does not look like the Mac. So can't be used with Macpup.

Am glad you like this version.

Thanks for the info.
Here's my xp x desktop.
Rocket launcher and smoothstripes!
Looking for the same look with puppy.
You come close. Keep up the good work.
Hiding the taskbar gives me an error (taskbar.cfg)by the way.
Anyway I thank you for your puppy. :lol:

@Django: Good screenshots. I like them. I have tried Rocket launcher in the past. Maybe I should give it another try to make it look like yours. But I use Puppy most of the time. Need to ask me wife if she likes this look. :)

Hey I like puppy linux more than Windows. Don't get me wrong.
It's just the osx look I'm after.
I need windows for my work as a website builder in Flash.
But for the rest I prefer Linux.
I have 4 pentium 4 pc's and 4 pentium 3 machines. Only on one is Windows.
The rest have all linux. I'm trying out every distribution I encounter and so far puppy is the winner.
The dock concept is so cool. If I could have the same look without any other ugly taskbar on my desktop in puppy I would say goodbey to windows forever.
Wy not Mac? Well the platform of mac is like sitting on a deserted island.
I've used them for quit a few years. I still own a few macs (no high end machines) But Mac software is harder to get and more limited.
I can dismantel a pc and fix it when it is broken.
With Mac it's a different ballgame. The smallest parts have absurt prices.
So a pc with linux is the way to go.
The only thing I like about mac is the osx desktop.
It's getting close but not yet
Yep I think that soon I will have my ultimate lowcost interface because that's what a computer is all about. I thank you.
If there was a Flash professional version for linux than I would be the happiest man alive.

@Django: If you are after the launch bar, then you can just download the wbar (there is a separate thread for this) and install it. I can help you out with options and setup. I have done this in a regular puppy with jwm and works perfectly. I like this kind of setup very much.

Here is the forum link for the wbar thread:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=19742.

But if you really want the launch bar and the Mac look, then you can use Macpup.

@All,

I've been a Mac user for a long time, and started using Linux only fairly recently, so I have an eye for what looks mac-ish and not. My screenshot here shows the results of my efforts towards bringing the OS X look and feel to Puppy.

Image

A puplet of something like this is a great idea; I propose the name "iPup." Now, if you want it to appeal to Mac users, it should look (and feel) like the real OS X. That means things like a single menu bar at the top of the screen, realistic themes, and a dock instead of a task bar.

I am using wNOP (Xfce + Compiz Fusion). The theme is Leopardish, and it is for GTK, Emerald, and Xfwm. It is the most realistic-looking OSX-clone theme that I have found. It is bundled, along with icons, cursors, and other goodies, in the Mac4Lin project. The dock is Cairo-Dock. The Global Menu bar is achieved by installing a patched version of GTK and an xfce4- or gnome- panel plugin. (More info here and here.) I was able to find binary packages for these, which I can upload here if people are interested.

@CEL: That is a cool screenshot. One thing that is true is many of us have just have seen screenshots of Mac OSx but not actually worked on it.

I had tried out to make the Macpup initially with Xfce, but encountered some errors and then when Ttuuxxx came out with the light icewm, I went with that.

Though I know that Cairo Dock gives a more Mac like look, decided not to use it because it is a little heavy especially when working on older systems. So the use of wbar.

One of these days I might try remastering using Xfce and see if it goes well with the wbar.

Or, you can try remastering with the wbar (without Cairo Dock) and see how it goes.

I also want the Macpup to be less than 100MB (Just a personal target)

It does look nice :) I can get the taskbar to look like that in icewm. well I can round the left side of the start menu. But I don't think it is possible to round the right side because it isn't a image file. Also do mac's have finder, file, view,Go,Help
and if so what are their puppy counterparts? So I can link them up with the proper counter parts

Finder=??
File=??
View=??
Go=??
Help=??
The reason why is because I haven't touched a mac since the early 80's. And apple has changed a lot since then:)
