Gimp 2.4.5 Full install Puppy 3.0 Series |
|
Hi I was bored and figured its about time for the Latest Gimp, It runs perfect in puppy 3.0.1 Live CD. No missing Libraries !!
Also made a Locale pet for other than English languages, No Idea how that works, Anyways hope you have fun with it.
Also If it doesn't work on puppy 4.0 Its out of my hands. I'm sticking with the 3 series.

Doesn't work for me. Puppy 3.01 live cd , 600M cpu, 256M RAM, plenty of swap.
Downloaded and installed ok, no missing dependencies. Re-booted, found GIMP 2.4.5 in the menu, clicked.....
The little red graph thing at the bottom of the screen went up, and up, and up.....and then down again. No GIMP appeared.
I've hunted through the file system to check permissions, all ok as far as I can tell, unless I've not found some.
Tried starting from the console, but then I get several lines of text, which disappear in a flash as the console window closes!
Any more suggestions?
Gerry

gerry, please try:
gimp 2>/root/error.txt
Then you should see all errors in /root/error.txt

Then I tried with gimp-2.4.5 >... and got the same.
Trying with gimp-2.4 got a result- need to remember how to do a screen grab- another message to follow.

| Code: | /etc/init.d/messagebus reload
/etc/init.d/messagebus restart |
type the above into a terminal, and try GIMP again.

Tried that.....looked promising, in that I got sensible acknowledgements when I entered the commands, but has not affected gimp, and error file is just the same as screenshot above.

no idea, maybe you can trick it out by creating that file with a texteditor?
Mine looks like this:
/var/lib/dbus/machine-id
| Code: | 518d28aa2d408b54e5dcb50047929add

Hi Gerry, have you uninstalled the previous version of Gimp? Looking up sourceforge (or was it the gimp website...) I found that it's highly advisable to uninstall the previous version of gimp before updating... something about problems using the same libraries... good luck.

Hi Gerry I'm with dinky on that one,
When I made up this package I made it on a clean boot up with the live cd, With all the dependencies 100%
When I ran it it worked straight away, Are you using a "Official 3.0" or a variant? if so which one are you using?
thanks

Hi Gerry also you can try this
delete machine-id file in /var/lib/dbus/machine-id
Open a command line and type
dbus-uuidgen --ensure <--- press enter
you should have a new machine-id in your dbus folder now.

Thanks everyone- I tried MU's suggestion, created the machine-id file and put his number in, and it was all systems go.
If it's gone again next time I boot, I'll try ttuuxxx's idea.
I wonder where it went? maybe it's time for a new pup-save file, this one has had a few adventures.
