The fun fonts pack found at http://thelinuxbox.org/?page_id=3 is what I load on all my linux boxes.
I'm not sure if this is what you guys are looking for, but it appears to have the right licensing and the variety is awesome.

Hey Pa... sorry, couldn't resist... anyway,pa_mcclamrock wrote:pa_penguins_favorite_free_fonts: available through PETget from Official Puppy 4 repository; has blackletter, Celtic, fancy cursive, and more:
This is not the first time I've read that something is available in the official repository. I'm missing something though, because when I open the package manager in 4.0 (which is MUCH less versatile than the version in 3.01, IMO), the packages that I read should be there aren't.
Is there a way to update the listing? Other options or commands I should know but don't? A way to learn how to use PETget through the command line more efficiently?
Not trying to hijack the thread.. I'm very interested in the font issue, but this reminded me that I find much more useable 'stuff' in places other than the 'official' repositories and that just doesn't seem right.

Maybe you can only see this one from petget in Puppy 4.2. You should be able to download it from your browser if you go to the puppy download page, follow the main link to the downloads at ibiblio, and then click on the packages directory.I'm missing something though, because when I open the package manager in 4.0
That's interesting - did it do something I don't know about in 3.01? There has been a lot of work on it for Woof (and maybe 4.2) though, so hopefully it is getting better.which is MUCH less versatile than the version in 3.01, IMO

Well I never thought I'd be into font's but you just never know!
I put together "Pdingobats"... the Pwidgets font for Weather and other widgets and learned plenty. (yeah, I know, it's a dingbat )
ttuuxxx has a cool font editor called 'Fontforge' in his list at puppylinux.ca and I think it should be available on the official repo. Then the pups here can go wild and create a unique puppy font.
One cool font that should be more available is 'D3 Euronism', a modern style, it is available from dafont.com and I believe it has the correct licensing. That is always the hard part in choosing a font!
Just my 2c in this very worthy thread!

Thanks disciple, that's a good idea. I'll try that!disciple wrote:Maybe you can only see this one from petget in Puppy 4.2. I haven't tried the package manager in 4.2 yet because I haven't actually installed it on anything. My main Puppy system is 4.0 simply because on this particular hardware, everything works with minimal tweaking (specifically internet connection and audio).disciple wrote:That's interesting - did it do something I don't know about in 3.01? The (gui) package manager in 4.0-4.1.2 operates differently than it did in earlier versions in two ways that are a problem IMO. First, it doesn't appear to have as many packages available, even though they are separated by version. Secondly, it only installs/uninstalls one package at a time, and god help you if you mis-click because you don't get to say yes or no, it just does it.
Now, I discovered while playing with these things the other day (after I posted what you responded to above) that if I type 'petget' from the terminal I get the same user interface that we had from the 3 series. Since then I don't even attempt to use the interface from the menu because of the issues stated above.
As much as I love Puppy (this might should be another thread), package management is a HUGE problem IMO. My experience has been that most of the stuff I want and need is available via the forums and may never actually get to an actual repository. If we expect to maintain our popularity, this is an issue that must be addressed soon, I think.
In the mean time, it appears that I have some fonts to find!
Later!
