dlink usb dwl-g122 (rt73) kernel panic ?

#1 Post by slocopuppy »

hello,

I've been successfully installing puppy (3.01) on my '98 extensa 501dx.

I'm using a usb "dongle" from dlink (dwl-g122 rev c1).

It gets somehow recognized (i have to insert it in a running machine, won't recognize it if already inserted ad boot :? ), and the rt73 module get loaded.

I've been able to hook up to an unencrypted network. But when it comes to transfer "big" amounts of data (ie downloading 40/50MB), the pc hangs.
Once I managed to grasp a kernel panic, but most times the thing would just hang. Except for this the pc works fine (ie no bad ram banks).

I've also tried to use ndiswrapper with rt73.inf/sys (10-1-2007), but it seems to happen just the same, just later on....

is there any trick, test i can do ? could i compile a different module ? is there a reference for this kind of problems ?

thanks so much for anyone caring to share experience on this matter

nevermind, it wasn't the ndiswrapper module causing panic, but rather the rtx200 opensrc module (I wasn't just doing the modprobe ndiswrapper).

now i've also found a newer (7/31/2007) module going with the dlink g122 rev c1:

D-Link DWL-G122.C1v3.30 Build 62224 S0036 (ML18)
Dr71WU.inf/sys

and i can report a much longer connection lifespan (still running) with it.

my puppy now acts as a router and openvpn endpoint !
great stuff!!!
