JustGreg wrote:I downloaded both the wine 0.9.59 and xorg pets. Both installed and worked. I have tried wine 0.9.59 with Quicken 2000 ( the only windows application that I can not find a suitable replacement). It works fine. In fact, Quicken works better with the version 0.9.59 than 0.9.17. During the Wine 0.9.59 pet installation the following library errors were reported:

Code: Select all

file /usr/lib/wine/wineesd.drv.so missing libesd.so
file /usr/lib/wine/gphoto2.ds.so missing libgphoto.so.2 and libgphoto2_port.so.0
file file /usr/lib/wine/wldap32.dll.so missing libldap_r-2.3.so.0 and liblber-2.3.so.0
I did not have any run errors with Quicken for these missing library files. I hope this helps.
I should have most of the fixes for you JustGreg.. First some .pet's for the missing libraries.

libesd0-2.38.pet // this package is a default package with Wolf Pup Linux 1.00 as it is a needed dependency of other packages.
Image 17.61 Kb

libgphoto2-2.4.0-i386.pet
Image 768.74 Kb

libgphoto2_port0-2.4.0-i386.pet
Image 92.52 Kb

libhal1-0.5.9.1-i386.pet // needed by libgphoto2_port0-2.4.0-i386.pet
Image 361.04 Kb

Next you want to make sure you have OpenLDAP installed. with Puppy 3.01 this package is installed by default. If it is, you should just need a couple symlinks.

Just run the following commands;
# cd /usr/lib/
# ln -s libldap-2.3.so.0.2.20 libldap_r-2.3.so.0
# ln -s liblber-2.3.so.0.2.20 liblber-2.3.so.0 // this one was already correct for me by default.

Also wineHQ also recommends a couple additional packages not on by default for slackware installations, which puppy does have a slackware12 core.
esound-0.2.38-i486.pet which I have available for download on my site,
Image 116.43 Kb

sane-1.0.18.pet which is available from the puppy package manager.

The PETget package manager does not know what package/s has/have these libraries.
Thankfully it's all over 1 missing library. I'm going to go grab the new one off wineHQ and see if I get the same turn out.

I've downloaded wine 0.9.60 from wineHQ and looked over the doinst.sh and found the following symlinks need made.

( cd usr/bin ; rm -rf wineg++ )
( cd usr/bin ; ln -sf winegcc wineg++ )
( cd usr/bin ; rm -rf winecpp )
( cd usr/bin ; ln -sf winegcc winecpp )
( cd usr/man/man1 ; rm -rf wineg++.1.gz )
( cd usr/man/man1 ; ln -sf winegcc.1.gz wineg++.1.gz )
( cd usr/lib ; rm -rf libwine.so.1 )
( cd usr/lib ; ln -sf libwine.so.1.0 libwine.so.1 )
( cd usr/lib ; rm -rf libwine.so )
( cd usr/lib ; ln -sf libwine.so.1.0 libwine.so )

I've packaged wine 0.9.60 with said symlinks and get a clean install. The package is available below.

wine-0.9.60-i486.pet

Wine 0.9.60 seems to crash X-server when running "wine iexplore.exe www.google.com" was just trying to get gecko installed. anyway, might be good to leave html rendering disabled for now. Worked fine in 0.9.95...

Now I just need to test some applications out other then the browser.

Stevenbinion,
What is the difference of the Wine pet you propose and the one proposed in the first post. It's a bit confusing having apparently two different pet's.

Having said this, I have a program that needs html rendering.
I's a very good news reader client, one of the best in my opinion and is called MesNews.
In previous Wine pets, I came also to the point that gecko is to be installed. Download of that code seems to start and then nothing anymore.
Is there a cure for this?

Suppose just more evidence iexplore.exe is garbage.

The ONLY difference between the two pets. are that I created the symlinks that the "doinstall.sh" script was supposed to do, its why I got the list off errors for the libwine file missing. so I created the symlinks and repackaged the pet, it still comes with Wolf Pup's winecfg.desktop.

Usually you would just drop into shell, and run the command "wine iexplore.exe www.anywebpage.com" and it would start up Iexplore and prompt to install gecko. once you did iexplore would then load the webpage you entered and you were done. As of 0.9.60 I tried this off the bat and it crashes X now. but I downlowaded Firefox, the install was flawless, and it loaded right up. I wanted some music so I went to www.pandora.com the site needs the flash plugin, that install was flawless and am now listening to Seether via Wine, useing Firefox for windows.

Thank you for the update on the two wine 0.9.60 pet's.
I finally did the symlinking by hand. Didn't know if it was needed really.
Did the 'wine iexplore.exe' and I got again the gecko installation thing.
This time after download, the install started and seemed to finish correctly as far as I can see.
But when I start iexplore I still get the message 'HTML rendering is disabled.
The same for that newsreader MesNews.

I'm not sure I'm going to try to bother Gecko again for right now. I've deleted /root/.wine/ like 3 times now to reinstall gecko fresh. and once I do Iexplore.exe keeps crashing

I subscribed to this group: comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine
And I asked the question about gecko html rendering.
So far no answer.

Strange a bit, but this package (http://tekwolf.net/modules/wfdownloads/ ... d=1&lid=13)seems a bit small for me (5,4Mb), while the compressed Slackware binary is 13Mb. Is it OK?

Thanks,

Matu

I downloaded through the same link and got the 13MB.
Somehow your download has stopped in the middle.

I tried again with wget (Pwget) right now, its still 5,4 Mb. Could you please give a try to this link (its the direct link I think)?

Thanks for the locations of the libraries. I have upgraded to wine 0.9.60 on my Dingo (Puppy 3.99) full installed. I got the same error messages on the missing libraries. I will add them. So far, I have no problems with quicken and wine (either 0.9.59 or 0.9.60) with the missing libraries.

I believe I found the problem with Gecko. Gecko is downloaded as a .cab file. and from what I can tell, is Puppy has no default means to extract the .cab, that is until now. Here is the dot pet that should clear up the issues with getting HTML rendering going for you for WINE on Puppy Linux.

Cab Extract 1.0

I thought I'd submit my first screen of success, well somewhat. In the screenshot you will see that Star Wars Galaxies starts up and patches. When I click play it even launches into the game, but there are no graphics just a black screen with garbage all over it. I'll add a screenshot of that later. Xfire how ever works great, you start it up and when you log in, it detects the games you have installed my only game so far is SWG. You go to tools, and launch SWG that works perfectly too. the only flow I found was that when you click on the menu, you can't click or mouse over the option, you have to navigate the menu with the directional key, I also tested Firefox. also works flawlessly including adding plugins and themes, etc. Installations all went smooth and leave a nice shortcut for you in /root/desktop/ just add a category and restart X and they're on your menu.

I'll add more screenshots later.

no, cabextract does not fix it.
Here is the result, if I run "wine iexplore.exe" in a console.
It extracts gecko in /root/.wine/drive_c/windows/gecko/0.1.0/wine_gecko

Then it segfaults.

Thanks for the post Mark, I saw a few references to libwine and other files dependant on libwine. I'm thinking you may have gotten a package that didn't have the necessary libwine symlinks.

Try making the following links:
( cd usr/bin ; ln -sf winegcc wineg++ )
( cd usr/bin ; ln -sf winegcc winecpp )
( cd usr/man/man1 ; ln -sf winegcc.1.gz wineg++.1.gz )
( cd usr/lib ; ln -sf libwine.so.1.0 libwine.so.1 )
( cd usr/lib ; ln -sf libwine.so.1.0 libwine.so )

Once you make these symlinks:
remove the .wine/ directory
(cd /root/ ; rm -R .wine/)

Then run Iexplore.exe again:
(wine iexplore.exe www.google.com)

I have a .pet package for wine 0.9.60 with the above symlinks and the cabextract did the trick for me as shown in the screenshot above with SWG and Xfire, SWG needs it to display links to news and if the servers are up or not, and Xfire uses it for it's advertisement banners.

Get Wine 0.9.60 here:

http://tekwolf.net/modules/wfdownloads/ ... d=1&lid=13 // just found that the file wasn't complete as it was only 5MB instead of 13MB I've uploaded the package again.

The files are being installed to the correct folder. Does your files structure look similar to this?:
# cd /root/.wine/drive_c/windows/gecko/0.1.0/wine_gecko/
# ls -l
