Hello; I'm using wNOP and have tried to try this but without success.

I d/l'd and installed each package and rebooted. Unfortunately the Utility menu has no Cairo entry and the command 'cairo-dock' is unknown.

Even more odder is the fact that the package-magager has no record of any of these packages being installed so I cannot un-install them. But if I launch the cairo-dock pet again it warns me that it is already installed. So I'm in a sort of deadly-embrace where I can neither delete nor re-install it.

Any suggestions what to try next?

@nic2109:
Are you sure their installed? Cos petget is still buggy and sometimes installs pets , still packaged-up, to the root directory! If this is the case then the 'new' pets in your root directory will install perfectly! Yes, I think that's a little weird too!

Failing that, see if you can find the exact location of "cairo-dock" and try running it from the command line to see what it says.

Woopyhoolah!

No; I'm sure they're NOT installed. The packages have ended up in /root/.packages, and when I try to install from there I first get warned that it's already already installed. Then, if I select 'Install', I get an error message such as

Code: Select all

There was an error expanding package ORBit2-2[1].14.7-i686.tar.gz.
Either the file is corrupted, or has not expanded into its own directory with
name of ORBit2-2[1].14.7-i686/ (which is how most packages expand).
You will have to go into /root/.packages/ directory and manually clean it up.

This script will now exit...
What it has done is rename the package from <..whatever..>.pet to <..whatever..>.tar.gz and created a folder (still in /root/.packages) called 'whatever'.

So; it's being Very Naughty and deserves an ASBO at least. See screenshot for folder contents and error messages.

What next?

Defintion of ASBO
conduct which caused or was likely to cause alarm, harassment, or distress to one or more persons not of the same household as him or herself and where an ASBO is seen as necessary to protect relevant persons from further anti-social acts by the Defendant
Yes, I think you're quite right there. So you'll just have to go in there and do it yourself. If there is any stuff in those folders plonked in /root/.packages that can just be copied straight to root (as in '/' not '/root/'). If there's no anything in those folders then you might just have to do it by hand! I know that sounds rather laboursome, but it might be the only way, until petget is fixed. To do this, rename the offending pet file to tar.gz and unzip it, then copu the contents of the resulting folder to root (again as in /).

Gosh, I hope every single pet isn't being anti-social!

Remove "[1]" from filenames (example: "cairo-dock-1.[1]5.0.1-i686.pet" to cairo-dock-1.5.0.1-i686.pet ) and install everything again.

Thanks; that worked so I now can launch the Dock. And I LOVE it!!

Naturally it brings more questions principally "How do I associate a Dock icon with an application?" So far the only one that actually DOES anything is the 2nd from the left which brings up CompizSettingsManager. The others bounce happily for a moment and then settle down again without having done anything that I can see.

O woe! I changed the position to "Right" and it's gone, never to return! That can't be right, can it?

Hello,
I have done a wiki page with your post for the French user on the official web site :
=>http://www.cairo-dock.org/

On the repository cairo-dock, there are the deposits Ubuntu (of course) and OpenSUSE all in 32/64 bit. I am sure that there is a place for a deposit Puppy/Toutou Linux.
If some one can manage the package update, we will be happy to help your community with a repository on cairo-dock.org.

For that, please come on our forum to talk about it.
Enough persons speak English

See you soon

I;m sorry to bump a somewhat old topic, but I have a problem...

I've installed the .pet and all of the requirements, but the program won't run! I go to launch it from Menu | Utilities and when I clck on it, nothing happens!

Any ideas?

Is the file still in FileFront? For the last couple of days, I tried to download this pet but I keep getting an error message stating the download has failed because there were no available download servers. For two days??

Are there any mirrors grooming this pet?

Thanks for your attention.

The .pet still be available on that link :
http://files.filefront.com/cairo+dock+1 ... einfo.html

The new version of Cairo-dock is very interesting, transparency without compositing, news view, plug-in (21 stable).

If someone can maintain the two .pet (cairo-dock + cairo-dock_plugi-in), we can lodge them on the official website, and why not a repository.

wow,

I know you are really busy at the moment so i'm trying to compile the new cairo 1.6 myself to post it against puppy4.

I'm trying to compile glitz to get the headers.

When i download the glitz source. The README tells me to use autogen.sh to compile the make file. I was under the assumption that automake is the same thing, is it?

Anyway i tried:
$automake
$./configure --enable-glx
$make install

The flags in the config show GLX as TRUE. But when i ./configure --enable-glitz in cairo 1.6 it throws an error saying there aren't any GLX headers.

I checked my glitz make and there aren't any there. How did you get it to compile the GLX headers?

What did i do wrong?

I've managed to get Cairo-Dock working in Puppy 4 myself. The GLX headers come from the MESA library. I think it's just the MesaLib you need, maybe the GLUT one too, though I doubt it.

tombh,

I was under the impression that it needed the glitz-glx headers not the MESA glx stuff?

Anyways, out of interest, is libgl part of the startard puppy rollout?

Thanks,

n4l
