Wireless - Works Fine, but is this a long way round ?

#1 Post by menawollas »

Got my wireless working, and connected to the internet, but not sure if what I have done should be taken care of by some of the wizards or not??

I made sure Perl was present, copied over the drivers for my card, and them used ndiswrapper. That all fine.

I then used iwconfig to set the SID and the channel

Used ifconfig to bring wlan0 up and to assign it a static address

used route add default gw x.x.x.x wlan0 to add the gateway

then finally edited /etc/resolv.conf to include a nameserver.

I have the feeling that some, if not all, of the above should have been done
by the setup graphical wizard, but it wasn't obvious.

Am I missing something ???

That is exactly what I thought when I tried it. It just told me to do the same thing I had been doing already. It's not so much a wizard as a how-to. Oh well....
